FACTORS OF SAFETY FOR THE DESIGN OF BREAKWATERS

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1982
This paper proposes to improve the safety of breakwaters by two important changes in the philosophy of design. When hydraulic model testing is used as a design tool the authors propose to reduce the specific gravity of the model breakwater to introduce a factor of safety in the prototype.

Effects of Design Factors and Multi-Stage Environmental Factors on Hydrological Performance of Subtropical Green Roofs

open access: yesLand
Environmental and design factors determine the stormwater management capacity of green roofs; however, the design and environmental factors that impact their hydrological performance in subtropical humid regions are poorly understood.

Mixture Designs for Four Factors

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1965
Summary Scheffé, in two recent papers (1958, 1963), has given designs for experimenting with mixtures. The basis of these designs is the choice of symmetrical arrangements of points in the factor space and the fitting of carefully chosen models which have exactly as many coefficients as there are data points.

Model predictive control of nine-switch and eleven-switch converter topologies with switching frequency constrains

open access: yesCogent Engineering
The following work presents a predictive control scheme for a nine-switch converter and an eleven-switch converter. The nine-switch converter’s topology is based on two classic two-level converters sharing a positive and negative bus respectively.

Bridging the Loneliness Gap: Depression, Connectivity, and Isolation in Pediatric Oncology Patients and Their Peers

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Loneliness is associated with adverse physical and mental health outcomes and remains understudied in children and adolescents undergoing cancer therapy. Pediatric oncology patients may be at increased risk due to medical isolation and disruption of social networks.

Early Body Mass Index z‐Score Change and Resolution of Severe Malnutrition in Children With Sickle Cell Anemia in a Low‐Income Setting: A Prospective Single‐Arm Extension Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Children with sickle cell anemia (SCA) in low‐income settings are at risk of severe malnutrition, but optimal nutritional management has not been established. We evaluated an intensified ready‐to‐use therapeutic food (RUTF) regimen in children with persistent severe malnutrition after initial treatment and assessed whether early ...
