Are disability-access guidelines designed for designers?

Proceedings of the 20th conference of the computer-human interaction special interest group (CHISIG) of Australia on Computer-human interaction: design: activities, artefacts and environments - OZCHI '06, 2006
In this paper we discuss the implications of recent research studies on disability-related design guidelines. We have investigated the quality of guidelines with respect to designers as their end-users, and we have conducted field studies of the use design resources in practice.

Design methodology for aids for the disabled

Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology, 1990
Although many aids for the disabled appear to be quite simple, their design is subject to many difficulties. These problems arise because of the intimate relationship between the equipment and the human body. Equipment design is therefore affected by many biological variables that are difficult to define at the beginning of the design exercise and many
