Design Methods

2016
In this document, “design” is considered to include the choice of a wind turbine configuration and the sizing of the machine and all of its principal components, including rotor, drivetrain, nacelle, tower and support structures, as well as the choice of the generator, pitch and yaw systems.

Method of designing an apodizer

Applied Optics, 1995
Side lobes can be suppressed by means of a suitable filter across an aperture. This method is well known in optics as apodization. To obtain the desired field, we approximate it by a Gaussian field. Then it is transformed to the transmittance function of the filter. The field and the transmittance function are Fourier-transform pairs.

A Semantic Design Method

IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, 1983
A system design method where the computer system is adapted to user semantics is described. In the method, user semantics are defined as abstract objects using special languages. Both user data semantics and user operations are defined. A translator converts the abstract definitions into internal machine storage representation and machine instructions.

Sewing as a design method

Interactions, 2015
This forum highlights conversations at the intersection of design methods and social studies of technology. By highlighting a diversity of perspectives on design interventions and programs, we aim to forge new connections between HCI design and communication, science and technology studies, and media studies scholarship ...

Design Methods for TEL

2017
This chapter revisits a recently started dialogue between the fields of instructional systems design (ISD) and the learning sciences (LS) to present current trends in design and evaluation methods for TEL. It contains three sections. First, attention is given to literature concerning “design” and “evaluate” as verbs; this section focuses on the ...

Logical design methods

Proceedings of the May 6-8, 1958, western joint computer conference: contrasts in computers on XX - IRE-ACM-AIEE '58 (Western), 1958
It was recently reported in a magazine that Theodore Roosevelt, when a student at Harvard, objected to the idea of arbitrarily assigning a student to a topic to be defended in a debate regardless of the beliefs and convictions of the student. He felt that this practice was not in the best interests of sincerity and intensity of conviction.
