Design problems in automated warehousing
Proceedings. 1986 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1986What are the common problems that arise in designing an automated warehouse? What solution and analysis techniques are appropriate for addressing these problems? The objective of this paper is to help provide answers to these two questions. In doing so, emphasis will be placed on describing the design problems.

Formulating a design task as a computer solvable problem involves two major steps: choosing a representation for the artifact, and choosing a representation for the criteria that will be used to evaluate generated solutions. The formulation we use is based on the classic labeling problem [Waltz 75].
