The design space layer

Proceedings of the conference on Design, automation and test in Europe, 1999
A novel library layer, called the "design space layer," is proposed, aimed at supporting both IP-based and traditional "in-house" design methodologies, during early design space exploration. Strategies for effectively pruning the large design spaces characteristic of system-on-a-chip designs, and for transparently retrieving information on cores ...

Leveraging Prior Knowledge for Effective Design-Space Exploration in High-Level Synthesis

IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, 2020
High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tools allow the generation of a large variety of hardware implementations from the same specification by setting different optimization directives.

Microstructure design using machine learning generated low dimensional and continuous design space

Materialia, 2020
The cornerstone of materials design is the design space used in solving materials related optimization problems. Materials design strategies often involve evaluating properties of materials with selected design variables.

The whittled design space

Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing, 2006
The paper by Woodbury and Burrow is examined using four criteria: completeness, discrimination, alternative approaches, and combining exploration in different problem domains. Although the paper covers significant aspects of the search space literature it leaves out some relevant aspects of the cognitive approach.

Space-filling experimental designs for constrained design spaces

Engineering Optimization, 2018
Conventional space-filling experimental design provides uniform coverage of a hypercube design space. When constraints are imposed, the results may contain many infeasible points.

The design space of shelving

Journal of Systems Architecture, 1999
While using the direct issue mode, dependent instructions cause issue blockages and thus an issue bottleneck. Shelving is a technique to avoid this and to increase the sustained issue rate. It takes advantage of two concepts: (a) the decoupling of dependency checking from instruction issue and (b) significantly widening the instruction window that is ...

Structuring design spaces

INTERACT '93 and CHI '93 conference companion on Human factors in computing systems - CHI '93, 1993
The paper outlines the coarse structure, called CO-SITUE, of the design space in which designer reasoning takes place. It appears that any account of design rationale or of the logic of design reasoning will have to assume a CO-SITUE -like framework. As a frame notation, CO-SITUE has been applied in analysing and recording a medium-scale design project.
