Habitat Amount Shapes Ant Diversity in the Central Amazon

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
Ant diversity in fragmented Amazonian forest landscapes is primarily driven by landscape‐scale habitat amount rather than fragment size, supporting the Habitat Amount Hypothesis (HAH) over Island Biogeography Theory (IBT). Consequently, conservation strategies should prioritize maintaining and restoring forest cover across human‐modified landscapes ...

Impactos do Programa Bolsa Floresta: uma avaliação preliminar (Cadernos de Sustentabilidade) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014

Citizens Turning Into Scientists: A Calling to Boost the Knowledge of the Public to Address the Environmental Crisis in the Brazilian Semiarid

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 546-554, December 2025.
Desertification is increasing in the Brazilian Semiarid, leading to loss of species and ecosystem services, while precise data on biodiversity distribution and trends are lacking. Public engagement in scientific projects can improve ecosystem protection.

Racing Amidst Change: Urbanization and Climate Alter Functional Traits and Distribution of an Amazonian Parthenogenetic Lizard

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
By comparing native and neonative populations of an Amazonian lizard, we examine how urban environments and climate change impact its functional traits, while also predicting its future distribution. Our findings offer insights into how some species may adapt to human‐altered landscapes, showing that not all are negatively affected by these changes ...

open access: yesNova Economia, 2011

Project Terracert: a new paradigm in forest legislation for building efficient landscapes in municipalities within the Amazon/ Projeto [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019

Biases in Amphibian Sampling in the Amazon: Using Infrastructure and Accessibility Data to Identify Sampling Gaps

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
Biogeographic knowledge of Amazonian amphibians is constrained by spatial and temporal coverage, leading to biases that affect the understanding of their diversity patterns. Using an extensive occurrence database, this study identified knowledge gaps and sampling biases linked to infrastructure and accessibility factors across the region.

Surviving in the Amazon Arc of Deforestation: Richness and Defaunation of Mammals in Priority‐Protected Areas of the Brazilian Midwest

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 7, July 2025.
We found rich and compositionally different assemblages of medium and large‐sized mammals in protected areas on the southern edge of Amazon. However, both have high rates of mammal defaunation. We argue that anthropogenic threats in the Amazon Arc of Deforestation are eroding large ungulate populations, especially peccaries.

A Amazônia abriga a maior floresta tropical do mundo.
