Dispersal of Desmids by Waterbirds
Phycologia, 1966Abstract Vegetative cells from nine clones of desmids were fed to both mallard ducks and killdeer. Viable cells of seven were recovered from the feces after they had been in the digestive tract for at least one hour. Vegetative cells from these same clones were readily killed by desiccation.
