Induced Seismicity and Detailed Fracture Mapping as Tools for Evaluating HDR Reservoir Volume

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
The main goal of this paper was to estimate the heat exchange rock mass volume of a hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal reservoir based on microseismicity location. There are two types of recorded microseismicity: induced by flowing fluid (wet microseismicity)

ENHANCED RGB-D MAPPING METHOD FOR DETAILED 3D MODELING OF LARGE INDOOR ENVIRONMENTS [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
RGB-D sensors are novel sensing systems that capture RGB images along with pixel-wise depth information. Although they are widely used in various applications, RGB-D sensors have significant drawbacks with respect to 3D dense mapping of indoor ...

A Detailed Gene Expression Map of Giardia Encystation [PDF]

open access: yesGenes, 2021
Giardia intestinalis is an intestinal protozoan parasite that causes diarrheal infections worldwide. A key process to sustain its chain of transmission is the formation of infectious cysts in the encystation process. We combined deep RNAseq of a broad range of encystation timepoints to produce a high-resolution gene expression map of Giardia ...

Mapping research topics at multiple levels of detail [PDF]

open access: yesPatterns, 2021
The institutional review of interdisciplinary bodies of research lacks methods to systematically produce higher-level abstractions. Abstraction methods, like the "distant reading" of corpora, are increasingly important for knowledge discovery in the sciences and humanities. We demonstrate how abstraction methods complement the metrics on which research

A detailed look at the Szczarba map

open access: yes, 2023
We explain how to derive an explicit formula for a natural transformation relating the (left adjoints of) the homotopy coherent nerve and the Dwyer-Kan simplicial classifying space functor. The formula is derived using a method introduced by Szczarba when comparing two different chain models of a fibration.

A detailed physical map of the horse Y chromosome [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2004
We herein report a detailed physical map of the horse Y chromosome. The euchromatic region of the chromosome comprises ≈15 megabases (Mb) of the total 45- to 50-Mb size and lies in the distal one-third of the long arm, where the pseudoautosomal region (PAR) is located terminally. The rest of the chromosome is predominantly heterochromatic.

Magnetic Susceptibility of Soil to Differentiate Soil Environments in Southern Brazil

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo
The interest in new techniques to support digital soil mapping (DSM) is increasing. Numerous studies pointed out that the measure of magnetic susceptibility (MS) can be extremely useful in the identification of properties related with factors and ...
