Recovering Geometric Detail by Octree Normal Maps

2012
This paper presents a new approach for constructing normal maps that capture high-frequency geometric detail from dense models of arbitrary topology and are applied to the simplified version of the same models generated by any simplification method to mimic the same level of detail.

Instant convolution shadows for volumetric detail mapping

ACM Transactions on Graphics, 2013
In this article, we present a method for rendering dynamic scenes featuring translucent procedural volumetric detail with all-frequency soft shadows being cast from objects residing inside the view frustum. Our approach is based on an approximation of physically correct shadows from distant Gaussian area light sources positioned behind the view plane ...

Venus: Detailed Mapping of Maxwell Montes Region

Science, 1986
From October 1983 to July 1984, the north hemisphere of Venus, from latitude 30° to latitude 90°, was mapped by means of the radar imagers and altimeters of the spacecraft Venera 15 and Venera 16. This report presents the results of the radar mapping of the Maxwell Montes region, one of the most interesting features of Venus' surface.

Retention of Detail in Map Generalization

1964
Abstract : The Military Evaluation of Geographic Areas project (MEGA), U. S. Army Materiel Command Project No. 1-T-25001-A-131, has as one of its objectives the description of terrain factors in terms of their effects on military activities. Presentation of terrain-effect data in the form of tactical maps is considered to be one of the essential ...

Spatial gamut mapping for preserving the details of an image

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
The spatial gamut-mapping algorithm (SGMA) overcomes the drawbacks of the widely used color-by-color methods. Spatial gamut mapping can preserve detailed information in original images by performing adaptive gamut mapping in surrounding pixels within the image. However, spatial gamut mapping can result in hue shift and the halo effect.

Learning intensity and detail mapping parameters for dehazing

Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2017
State-of-the-art methods for removing haze from a single image rely on a haze image formation model and the inversion problem is solved by estimating medium transmission and global atmospheric light. In this paper, we propose a hazy image enhancement framework, called Intensity Mapping and Detail Mapping(IMDM), for dehazing, which can strike a good ...

Level of Detail Control for Texture on 3D Maps

11th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems (ICPADS'05), 2006
This paper proposes a method to control texture resolution levels for large-scale 3D maps of urban areas. Recently, performance of computers has been developed rapidly, but it is still hard to directly handle the large-scale 3D maps on PCs, because of its high requirement for hardware capability.

Adaptive Hierarchical Mesh Detail Mapping and Deformation

2019
In this work, we present a new method for controlled deformation and detail addition to 3d shapes represented as variable resolution meshes. The input data is a surface with arbitrary genus, represented by a polygonal mesh, and a set of parameters for edition control: positional information, the level of resolution, mesh features and direction of ...
