The singular shapes of neurons are the fundamental element of neuronal architecture. We now have a significant body of experimental work, on neuronal and nonneuronal cells, which suggests how those shapes might arise: the cellular machinery involved and how that machinery is guided to produce a particular form.

Determinants and Quadratic Forms
1976Interchanging two numbers in the numbering of the vertices is equivalent to the simultaneous interchange of two rows and two columns. If we give opposite vertices of the octahedron numbers that differ by 3, then the determinant $$ \left| {\begin{array}{*{20}c} 0 \hfill & 1 \hfill & 1 \hfill & 0 \hfill & 1 \hfill & 1 \hfill \\ 1 \hfill & 0 \hfill ...

Determination of Form Friction Factor
Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, 2010Friction factor plays a fundamental role in hydraulic analysis and design. In coarse-bed rivers friction factor depends on grain size and bed forms. Considering boundary-layer characteristics, this study first determines the total friction factor in gravel-bed rivers with bed forms.

Philosophers are continually challenged to comprehend chance phenomena and probabilistic relationships. Those cases are especially intriguing in which we speak of chance or probability but can hardly attribute this manner of speaking to our being partially or totally ignorant of the situations in question.

In this chapter, we introduce the concept of determinant in various ways. The invariant subspaces, the eigen values, the spectral theorem, the geometry of orthogonal transformations, and the geometry of bilinear forms also constitute the subject matter of this paper.

Determining the Form of Brexit
2023Abstract This chapter discusses the options for Brexit, and parliamentarians’ attempts to influence the detailed Brexit outcome. It also looks into parliament’s role in foreign affairs. When negotiations began with the EU, it became increasingly clear that there were tensions between the ‘red lines’ that Theresa May had set out shortly ...

The logical form of determiners
Journal of Philosophical Logic, 1995An attempt at finding syntactical means for formulating logical laws obeyed by such natural language determiners as ``many'', ``most'', ``few'', ``more than'', \dots. A special language is introduced which is constructed as an extension of the first-order predicate language; the expressivity of this extension is, however, acquired via mixed use of ...

Analytically Determined Bed-Form Shape
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1971The purpose herein is to present an analytically derived profile that includes an eddy region and is similar in appearance to bed-forms found in nature. It should be useful in the synthesis of more advanced mathematical models of bed-form development.
