Determinants of fetal and neonatal growth

Current Opinion in Pediatrics, 1994
Cellular proliferation and differentiation in the fetus and newborn are influenced by many factors. Increasingly, peptide growth factors are thought to play an important role in cell-to-cell communication during fetal life, promoting cellular proliferation, differentiation, and migration within tissues.

Determination of fibroblast growth factor 23

Annals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2009
Background Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) is a recently discovered hormone, which plays a key role in phosphate regulation. To investigate whether FGF-23 can be determined reliably, we validated the three available FGF-23 assays. Methods Currently, two intact FGF-23 assays (Kainos; Immutopics) and one C-terminal FGF-23 assay (Immutopics) are ...

Determinants of Growth

1995
This and the following chapter complete the empirical investigation ty taking long-run growth into account. As already discussed in Section 2.2, the analysis follows two aims, to confirm the main results about cycles found in Part III, and to explore the basic determinants of the change in long-term growth.

Hormonal determinants of pubertal growth.

Journal of pediatric endocrinology & metabolism : JPEM, 2001
Pubertal growth results from increased sex steroid and growth hormone (GH) secretion. Estrogens appear to play an important role in the regulation of pubertal growth in both girls and boys. In girls, however, estrogens cannot be the only sex steroids responsible for pubertal growth, as exogenous estrogens do not initiate a complete growth spurt.

Fetal Growth Factors as Determinants of Intrauterine Hepatic Growth

Diabetes, 1991
To understand mechanisms at the cellular level that may lead to the selective organomegaly seen in fetuses of diabetic mothers, we examined the role of insulin and autocrine-paracrine growth factors in the regulation of hepatic growth in the fetal rat.

The Determinants of Growth

2005
John Law, born in Edinburgh, the son of a goldsmith and banker, recognized the implications of the activities of banks and their link to the economy. He argued that wealth depends on goods and their trade ‘and Trade depends on Money’. ‘But only banker-created money ensures a sufficiently active supply’ (Davies, 1994, p. 553, paraphrasing Law). ‘By this
