DETERMINANTS OF INEFFICIENCY IN NORWEGIAN SALMON AQUACULTURE
Aquaculture Economics & Management, 2013This article builds on the literature investigating productivity and efficiency in the Norwegian salmon farming industry. The objective of this article is to investigate the determinants of inefficiency. We use a stochastic frontier approach that allows the estimation of a production function and an inefficiency function.

The determinants of the research output of universities: specialization, quality and inefficiencies
Scientometrics, 2016The analysis of productivity in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) at a European level reveals enormous differences in output per researcher across countries. This study develops a 5-step methodology that explicitly considers the quality of scientific output in EU universities and its specialisations to explain and decompose the differences in output

Knee Flexion During Stance as a Determinant of Inefficient Walking
Physical Therapy, 1983A biomechanical analysis of normal walking assessed the mechanical work cost in joules per unit mass and distance walked. For 21 walking trials--seven subjects at slow, natural, and fast cadences--these work costs (min = .73 J/kg.m, max = 1.65 J/kg.m) were correlated with maximum knee flexion during stance (min=6 degrees, max=33 degrees).

Technical Inefficiency and Its Determinants in US Wheat Production
2015This paper investigates technical inefficiency in four of the major wheat-producing states in the US. The findings show that the inefficiency of wheat production varied widely in these states and has a mean value of 16 percent. Increase moisture level has positive impact on the mean efficiency while wheat’s share acreage has negative impact on ...

Direct experimental determination of Frisch grid inefficiency in ionization chamber
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1997Abstract The present work describes the method of direct experimental determination of the Frisch grid inefficiency in an ionization chamber. The method is based on analysis of the anode signal after Waveform Digitizer. It is shown that the calculated grid inefficiency value can differ much from the measured ones.

Structural determinants of exercise ventilatory inefficiency in mild-to-moderate COPD
4.1 Clinical Physiology, Exercise and Functional Imaging, 2016Background: Exercise ventilatory inefficiency (e.g., increased ventilation (VE) / CO 2 output (VCO 2 ) nadir) has been consistently found in moderate-to-severe COPD. It remains unknown a) whether this holds true for patients with largely preserved FEV 1 and, if so, b) whether it would be associated with structural findings suggestive of “wasted ...

Institutions and Creative Destruction in CEECs: Determinants of Inefficient Use of Assets
2015We analyze the relationship between institutional quality and firm efficiency. Using rich data on firms in the European Union between 2005 and 2012, we show that high institutional quality lowers the share of persistently inefficiently used assets.

Household Inefficient Electricity Consumption and Its Determinants in Rural Areas
Journal of Development Policy and PracticeUsing stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) technique on the main data obtained by stratified random sampling, we have examined the inefficiency of families’ energy use in rural areas in this work. The households’ average efficiency is 77.25%, which suggests that there is a 22.75% underlying inefficiency.
