Determination of concrete compressive strength with pullout tests

Structural Concrete, 2009
A pullout test using post-installed inserts has been examined as an alternative to drilled cores to determine the in-place concrete compressive strength. Tests have been carried out on eight railway bridges from 1965 to 1980 and on a one year old concrete slab. An empirical strength relationship is proposed between the compressive strength of a drilled

Influence of the Concrete Strength, Cylindrical Specimen Size and the Type of Laboratory in Determining the Compressive Strength of Concrete

IABSE Congress Reports, 2016
<p>This paper presents a comparative analysis of the results obtained for testing the compressive strength by means of an interlaboratory test program in hardened concrete, developed in two different laboratories in the Goiânia, GO region, to identify and assess the influence of some factors affecting the results of compressive strength test. For

Experimental determination of KIIC of normal strength concrete

Materials and Structures, 1998
The double-edge notched specimen made of normal strength concrete has been subjected to compressive loads. It is shown that a shear crack develops at the notch tip. Visual observation and evaluation of displacement measurements have proven that this specimen allows pure mode II testing.

Determination of Concrete Strength by Nondestructive Methods

Cement, Concrete, and Aggregates, 1990
Abstract This paper considers problems of improving the non-destructive control of concrete strength from the standpoint of: selecting the most economic methods; determining the required number of individual tests at a location to obtain an average in-place test result with the same degree of confidence by various methods; and modifying ...

Ultrasonic determination of strength and deformability of concrete

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1973
Ultrasonic analysis of the quality of concrete in members and structures is a reliable and expeditious method for overall control of concrete in hydraulic and hydropower construction. The investigations indicate that when concrete is tested by the ultrasonic method, it is possible to determine, with a sufficiently high accuracy for practical ...

Determination of Concrete Strengths with Break-Off Tester

ACI Materials Journal, 1988
The correlations of break-off test results with those of the ASTM compression cylinder and the ASTM modulus of rupture beam tests were examined. The variables investigated were the water-cement ratio, the aggregate type, and the maximum aggregate size. In this study, the uncertainties associated with the 75 compression cylinders, 59 modulus of rupture ...

Sample size for determining the in situ strength of concrete

2023
Abstract One of the most important tasks in the appraisal of an existing concrete structure is to establish the characteristic in situ strength to be adopted for checking the structural adequacy of the existing structure for its intended usage.

Procedure for the Statistical Determination of the Design FRP-Confined Concrete Strength

2011
Worldwide research has now reached a level of integration where an effort towards the harmonization of procedures is absolutely needed. Such harmonization may regard, for example, the various steps that lead to the definition of capacity models to be included in design codes, specifically: definition of the test setup, quantities to be measured ...

Problems associated with determining the tensile strength of concrete

1967
This paper critically examines the various direct and indirect methods for determining the tensile strength of concrete. The direct methods considered are the classical uniaxial tension tests, the modified direct tension test due to Todd, and the very recent methods in which thick steel plates are glued by means of epoxies to the ends of concrete ...

Solubility of concrete in acid solution as a determinant factor in the assessment of concrete strength

Ife Journal of Science, 2016
The need exists for early assessment of strength of concrete in modem reinforced concrete construction to minimise losses. Possibility of using solubility of concrete in acid solutions to carry out its strength assessmentwas investigated. Standard concrete cubes were cast and cured for different days.
