Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

The Compatibility of Free Will and Determinism in Modern Western Compatibilists and Mulla Sadra [PDF]

open access: yesComparative Theology, 2014
The significance of determinism/ free will dilemma is clear by all enlightened mind as our approach in this regard has a straight influence on our theoretical worldview and scientific orientations in individual and social life.

Aristotle's Issue in the Ninth Chapter of Al-Ebara [PDF]

open access: yesMetaphysics, 2015
In Al-Ebara, Aristotle tells about two contradictories that one of them is essentially right and the other one is false, but in chapter nine, he remarks that this subject is not right about probable personal statements related to future, because ...

Studies on the classical determinism predicted by A. Einstein, B. Podolsky and N. Rosen

open access: yesRatio Mathematica, 2019
Inthispaper, wecontinuethestudyinitiatedinprecedingworks of the argument by A. Einstein, B. Podolsky and N. Rosen according to which quantum mechanics could be “completed” into a broader theory recovering classical determinism.

Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Complex Cryptographic and User‐Centric Physically Unclonable Functions Enabled by Strain‐Sensitive Nanocrystals via Selective Ligand Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates electromechanical PUFs that improve on traditional electric PUFs. The electron transport materials are coated randomly through selective ligand exchange. It produces multiple keys and a key with motion dependent on percolation and strain, and approaches almost ideal inter‐ and intra‐hamming distances.

Determining Environmental Determinism

open access: yesProgress in Human Geography, 2012
This commentary is a direct response to the Forum article ‘Environmentalist thinking and/in geography’ by Radcliffe et al. (2010) . Two main problems are addressed: the perpetuation of a false analogy between cultural and biological evolution, and a misunderstanding of memes.

Environmental determinism and archaeology. Understanding and evaluating determinism in research design

open access: yesArchaeological Dialogues, 2019
With the emergence of modern techniques of environmental analysis and widespread availability of accessible tools and quantitative data, the question of environmental determinism is once again on the agenda.

Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

The rise of corporational determinism: digital media corporations and narratives of media change

open access: yesCritical Studies in Media and Communication, 2019
This paper proposes a new theoretical concept, corporational determinism, to describe narratives by which digital media corporations are presented as the main or only agency informing socio-technical change.
