Deterministic methods of flexibiility analysis

Computers & Chemical Engineering, 1999
Abstract In this paper, we consider the solution of process optimization models under uncertainty (two-step optimization or TSOP). We note that the design variables found by solving the TSOP can guarantee the flexibility of chemical processes only if the solution corresponds to a global minimum.

Deterministic Search Methods for Computational Protein Design

2016
One main challenge in Computational Protein Design (CPD) lies in the exploration of the amino-acid sequence space, while considering, to some extent, side chain flexibility. The exorbitant size of the search space urges for the development of efficient exact deterministic search methods enabling identification of low-energy sequence-conformation models,

Pancreas modelling by a deterministic optimisation method

International Journal of Data Mining and Bioinformatics, 2011
Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterised by abnormally high glucose concentration, insulin dysfunction and resistance which may lead to health problems such as cardiovascular disease. This paper presents a mechanistic pancreas model of insulin dynamics which incorporates experimental physiological data.

Directional spectrum methods for deterministic waves

Ocean Engineering, 2011
Abstract This work discusses developments related to the generation and measurement of directional wave spectra in multi-directional wave tank using deterministic waves. The details of the generation method, based on the single summation method described by Jefferys (1987) , are given and the capacity of the Edinburgh curved wave tank to generate ...

A Deterministic Method for Haplotype Inference

2007 Conference Record of the Forty-First Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2007
Haplotypes are widely used in the analysis of relationship between genetics and diseases. Due to the cost of obtaining exact haplotype pairs, genotypes which contain the un-phased information corresponding to the haplotype pairs in the test subjects are used. Various haplotype inference algorithms have been proposed to resolve the un-phased information.

Deterministic oversampling methods based on SMOTE

Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2019
In supervised classification if one of the classes has fewer objects than the other, we have a class imbalance problem. One of the most common solutions to address class imbalance problems is oversampling, and SMOTE is the most referenced and well-known oversampling method. However, SMOTE creates synthetic objects in a random way, therefore it produces

Pricing futures by deterministic methods

Acta Numerica, 2012
In this article we will focus on only a small part of financial mathematics, namely the use of partial differential equations for pricing futures. Even within this narrow range it is hard to be systematic and complete, or even to do better than existing books such as Wilmott, Howison and Dewynne (1995), Achdou and Pironneau (2005), or software manuals ...

Construction of Uniform Designs—Deterministic Methods

2018
In this chapter and the following chapters, the different construction methods for uniform design tables are given. Typically, there are three approaches of constructing uniform design tables: (i) quasi-Monte Carlo methods; (ii) combinatorial methods; (iii) numerical search.

Sampling and Deterministic Modeling Methods

2016
Prior to any earth sciences modeling, the basic data quality, reliability, and sufficiency are the basic questions that must be grasped by the specialists in the earth sciences domain so that she/he can continue for better description and modeling of the phenomenon concerned.

Deterministic Global Optimization Methods for Solving Engineering Problems

Civil-Comp Proceedings, 2012
... In this work, various deterministic approaches for constructing efficient and reliable numerical methods for solving the global optimization problems based on the Lipschitz continuity assumption are discussed, as, e.g., divide-the-best scheme for constructing and studying numerical methods in a unified manner, index scheme for treating constraints,
