Topological model of soap froth evolution with deterministic T2-processes

open access: yes, 1995
We introduce a topological model for the evolution of 2d soap froth. The topological rearrangements (T2 processes) are deterministic (unlike the standard stochastic model): the final topology depends on the areas of the neighboring cells.

Relative importance of deterministic and stochastic processes for beta diversity of bird assemblages in Yunnan, China

open access: yesEcosphere, 2021
Evaluating the relative importance of deterministic and stochastic processes underlying taxonomic and functional beta diversity is crucial in community ecology, because it can reveal the dominant processes of community assembly.

mSphere of Influence: Deterministic and Stochastic Processes Drive Microbial Evolution

open access: yesmSphere, 2023
Aleeza C. Gerstein works in the field of microbial evolutionary genetics in human fungal pathogens. In this mSphere of Influence article, she reflects on how the papers “Experimental tests of the roles of adaptation, chance, and history in evolution” by ...

Effect of Inoculation with Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (Rhizophagus irregularis BGC AH01) on the Soil Bacterial Community Assembly

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Soil bacterial communities are crucial drivers of nutrient cycling and ecosystem functioning; however, their temporal dynamics under arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi colonization remain insufficiently characterized.

On predictors for band-limited and high-frequency time series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Pathwise predictability and predictors for discrete time processes are studied in deterministic setting. It is suggested to approximate convolution sums over future times by convolution sums over past time. It is shown that all band-limited processes are

Relative Importance of Deterministic and Stochastic Processes on Soil Microbial Community Assembly in Temperate Grasslands

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Changes in species composition across communities, i.e., β-diversity, is a central focus of ecology. Compared to macroorganisms, the β-diversity of soil microbes and its drivers are less studied. Whether the determinants of soil microbial β-diversity are

Biogeography and assembly processes of abundant and rare soil microbial taxa in the southern part of the Qilian Mountain National Park, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Soil microorganisms play vital roles in regulating multiple ecosystem functions. Recent studies have revealed that the rare microbial taxa (with extremely low relative abundances, which are still largely ignored) are also crucial in maintaining the ...

Comparison of Rhizosphere Microbiomes Between Domesticated and Wild Wheat in a Typical Agricultural Field: Insights into Microbial Community Structure and Functional Shifts

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
While the differences between domesticated crops and their wild relatives have been extensively studied, less is known about their rhizosphere microbiomes, which hold potential for breeding stress-resistant traits. We compared the rhizosphere microbiomes

Quasi-Deterministic Processes with Monotonic Trajectories and Unsupervised Machine Learning

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
This paper aims to consider approximation-estimation tests for decision-making by machine-learning methods, and integral-estimation tests are defined, which is a generalization for the continuous case.

Different responses of incidence-weighted and abundance-weighted multiple facets of macroinvertebrate beta diversity to urbanization in a subtropical river system

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2022
Urbanization is one of the major drivers of biotic homogenization (i.e., decrease in beta diversity) in freshwater systems. However, only a few studies have simultaneously examined how urbanization affects multiple facets (i.e., taxonomic, functional and
