C+O detonations in thermonuclear supernovae: Interaction with previously burned material [PDF]
In the context of explosion models for Type Ia Supernovae, we present one- and two-dimensional simulations of fully resolved detonation fronts in degenerate C+O White Dwarf matter including clumps of previously burned material. The ability of detonations

Initiation of the detonation in the gravitationally confined detonation model of Type Ia supernovae
We study the initiation of the detonation in the gravitationally confined detonation (GCD) model of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). Initiation of the detonation occurs spontaneously in a region where the length scale of the temperature gradient extending ...

Off-center ignition in type Ia supernova: I. Initial evolution and implications for delayed detonation [PDF]
The explosion of a carbon-oxygen white dwarf as a Type Ia supernova is known to be sensitive to the manner in which the burning is ignited. Studies of the pre-supernova evolution suggest asymmetric, off-center ignition, and here we explore its ...

Upconversion Photonic Doppler Velocimetry Based on Stimulated Brillouin Scattering
Optical up-conversion photonic Doppler velocimetry (PDV) based on stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) with an all-fiber link structure is proposed in this article. Because SBS limits the laser power transmitted by a fiber over long distances, the probe

Detonation front curvatures and detonation rates [PDF]
Many detonation front curvatures are reviewed. Most are of the Shock Dynamics type, which are described as a combination of quadratic and 8th power-of-the-radius curves. The integrated fraction of the 8th power curve is taken as a measure of curvature, which we are able to relate to the logarithm of the detonation rate.

Measurement of Ultra-High Speed by Optical Multistage Cascade Frequency Reduction Technology
In order to reduce the frequency of high-frequency Doppler signal light, the electronic bandwidth of a data acquisition system is reduced. This paper mainly describes the principle and experimental verification results of optical multistage cascade ...

Predicted reentrant melting of dense hydrogen at ultra-high pressures
The phase diagram of hydrogen is one of the most important challenges in high-pressure physics and astrophysics. Especially, the melting of dense hydrogen is complicated by dimer dissociation, metallization and nuclear quantum effect of protons, which ...

Delay Times and Rates for Type Ia Supernovae and Thermonuclear Explosions from Double-detonation Sub-Chandrasekhar Mass Models [PDF]
We present theoretical delay times and rates of thermonuclear explosions that are thought to produce Type Ia supernovae, including the double-detonation sub-Chandrasekhar mass model, using the population synthesis binary evolution code StarTrack.
