Impact‐diagnostic criteria for use in confirming a meteorite impact origin of terrestrial geological structures: Recommendations by the Impact Cratering Committee of the Meteoritical Society

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The framework of the Impact Cratering Committee (ICC) of the Meteoritical Society was approved in 2020, with the first committee members appointed in 2023. The ICC has a mandate to (1) approve, maintain, and update a database of confirmed terrestrial meteorite impact structures, (2) define and regularly update the criteria used for ...

A database of detrital zircon U–Pb ages and Lu–Hf isotope of sediments in the South China Sea

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal
Source‐to‐sink analysis examines the effects of source areas and basin (sink) dynamics on the generation, transport, composition, distribution and deposition of sediment in modern and ancient sedimentary systems.

Two‐Dimensional Quantitative Comparison of Density Distributions in Detrital Geochronology and Geochemistry

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
Detrital geochronology provides insight into a broad range of Earth Science questions. However, detrital zircon U‐Pb age distributions are inherently univariate, and thus quantitative comparison methods are limited to one‐dimension (1D) and subject to ...

Detrital Avalonian zircons in the Laurentian Southern Uplands terrane, Scotland [PDF]

open access: yesGeology, 2003
The Silurian–Ordovician Southern Uplands terrane occupies a key position in the Caledonian orogen, yet its genesis is controversial. Marginal-basin, backarc, and forearc tectonic regimes have all been invoked as operative at the Laurentian margin of the Iapetus Ocean.

Geochemical investigation of impactites from the Boltysh impact structure and possible relationship to early Danian sediments from the Umbria–Marche Basin, Italy

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Within the Danian Scaglia Rossa Formation appears a regionally correlatable horizon cutting across multiple sections and outcrops within the Umbria–Marche Basin of NE Italy, where it is intercalated with uniform pelagic carbonate successions. This horizon is called “ALE layer” and has tentatively been interpreted as a fine‐grained volcanic ash.

Detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology of sediments from the Okinawa Trough: implications for sedimentary provenance

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
In order to distinguish terrestrial material sources in the Okinawa Trough (OT), this study analyzed four surface sediment samples from the northern, middle, and southern parts of the OT using detrital zircon U-Pb age analysis.

Climate conditions on the South‐Iberian Palaeomargin during the latest Pliensbachian to early Toarcian: A mineralogical and geochemical study from hemipelagic deposits

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The integrated analysis of lithofacies, mineralogy and geochemistry of the hemipelagic marine succession exposed in La Cerradura section (South‐Iberian Palaeomargin) provides new information to characterise the palaeoenvironmental conditions during the latest Pliensbachian to early Toarcian, including the Jenkyns Event.

Discovery of mafic impact melt in the center of the Vredefort dome:archetype for continental residua of early Earth cratering?

open access: yes, 2014
Melting by impact heating is thought to have been a significant process in the modification of early planetary crusts; however, crustally derived melt bodies in ancient terrestrial crust are frequently presumed to be absent due to erosion.

Evidence for ca. 2046 Ma high-grade metamorphism in Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks of the northern Borborema Province, NE Brazil: constraints from U-Pb (LA-ICP-MS) zircon ages

open access: yesJournal of the Geological Survey of Brazil, 2019
This study presents LA-ICP-MS U-Pb detrital zircon ages on a migmatitic paragneiss of the Jaguaretama Complex, northern Borborema Province, NE-Brazil.

Sedimentology of silica granules and haematite in the 3.47 Ga Antarctic Creek Member, Mount Ada Basalt, Western Australia

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Paleoarchean Antarctic Creek Member of the Mount Ada Basalt, Eastern Pilbara Terrane, Western Australia, includes beds of jasper and white chert composed of sand‐sized silica granules that often contain or are mixed with silt‐sized particles of haematite.
