Neurogenic Causes of Detrusor Underactivity [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Bladder Dysfunction Reports, 2015
Detrusor underactivity (DU) is a poorly understood dysfunction of the lower urinary tract which arises from multiple etiologies. Symptoms of DU are non-specific, and a pressure-flow urodynamic study is necessary to differentiate DU from other conditions such as overactive bladder (OAB) or bladder outlet obstruction (BOO).

Underactive Bladder Syndrome: An Often Overlooked Condition

open access: yesSoutheastern European Medical Journal, 2021
Urinary bladder outlet obstruction can cause lower urinary tract symptoms in men and women, such as a weak or interrupted urine stream, straining to void, hesitancy, and the feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.

Detrusor underactivity is associated with metabolic syndrome in aged primates. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2023
AbstractLower urinary tract (LUT) dysfunction is prevalent in the elderly population, and clinical manifestations include urinary retention, incontinence, and recurrent urinary tract infections. Age-associated LUT dysfunction is responsible for significant morbidity, compromised quality of life, and rising healthcare costs in older adults, but its ...

The Role of Apoptosis in Detrusor Contractility [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Neurourology Journal, 2020
Apoptosis has been found in bladder affected by various types of voiding dysfunction. In animal studies, higher levels of apoptosis were observed in conditions of both detrusor overactivity and underactivity than in normal bladders.

Detrusor underactivity causes neurogenic voiding dysfunction in a rat bilateral accessory nerve-injury model

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2021
We aimed to investigate detrusor function in a previously developed rat neurogenic voiding dysfunction model that we have developed previously. We performed sham or bilateral accessory nerve injury (BACNI) surgeries on ten-week-old male Wistar/ST rats ...

Underactive Bladder: Clinical Features, Urodynamic Parameters, and Treatment [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Neurourology Journal, 2015
Purpose: Underactive bladder is a complex clinical condition that remains poorly understood due to limited literature. This study aimed to determine its prevalence among patients with voiding dysfunction, presenting symptoms, risk factors, urodynamic ...

PREVALENCE OF LOWER URINARY TRACT SYMPTOMS POST KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION AND ITS URODYNAMIC PROFILE

open access: yesJurnal Urologi Indonesia, 2021
Objective: This study aimed to describe the urodynamic characteristics of post-transplant kidney patients with LUTS who were indicated for urodynamics. Material & Methods: This research is a cross-sectional study conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo General ...

The examination of detrusor underactivity in multiple system atrophy. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Neurol
AimsThe urinary dysfunction in multiple system atrophy (MSA) is characterized by large post-void residuals (PVR) due to impaired bladder contractility. However, the evaluations of bladder contractility are not well validated in MSA. Because the bladder contractility index can be generally represented as Pdet Qmax (detrusor pressure at maximum urinary ...

Ultrastructural changes in the underactive bladder

open access: yesTzu Chi Medical Journal, 2021
Underactive bladder (UAB) is a symptom complex suggestive of detrusor underactivity (DU). Although it implies a primary dysfunction of the detrusor muscle, many other conditions such as advanced age, neurogenic factors, and bladder outlet obstruction ...
