Nitrooxylation in Organic Synthesis: From Classical Nitrate Ester Formation to Modern Catalytic Strategies

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Nitrooxylation—the installation of nitrate esters (–ONO2) has evolved from classical mixed‐acid protocols to catalytic and mechano‐, flow‐, photo‐, and electrochemical strategies. This review delineates ionic and radical manifolds for C–ONO2 bond formation, emphasizing mechanistic control, selected substrate scope, and selectivity.

Quantifying surface water evaporation loss rates in the Manas River Basin using stable isotope tracers

open access: yesHydrology Research
Calculating evaporation loss rates of surface water poses a significant challenge in remote regions, where meteorological data are scarce. To address this challenge, our study has adopted stable isotope tracers to determine the loss rates within the ...

N─H or O─H Bond Activation With a Bicyclic Si4 Ring Compound

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The bicyclic Si4 ring compound with zwitterionic character reacts with NH3, H2O, and selected alcohols to give functionalized saturated silicon rings, siliconoid clusters with unsubstituted Si atoms, or simple 1,3‐addition products. The experimentally observed reactivity could be rationalized based on results from mechanistic calculations employing ...

Compositional Stages in the Thermal Activation of Metal‐Organic Frameworks in Vacuo: In Situ Spectroscopy and Computation

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The ultrahigh surface area intrinsic to many metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) may only be accessed after the removal of synthesis solvent from within the pores. This study elucidates the electronic and structural changes undergone through the guest removal process within a commonly used CUS MOF.

Coupling Fluid Neutrals to Gyrokinetic Plasma Dynamics for Edge and SOL Turbulence Simulations

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate modeling of turbulent transport in magnetic confinement fusion devices requires extending first‐principles gyrokinetic simulations from the core to the edge and scrape‐off layer (SOL), where additional physics—particularly plasma–neutrals interactions—must be included.

Edge Fluid Turbulence Simulations of Stellarators With GRILLIX

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The edge fluid turbulence code GRILLIX has recently been extended from axisymmetric tokamak geometries to support 3D stellarator configurations. Following successful proof‐of‐principle simulations published in Stegmeir et al., we present here a comprehensive simulation of the Wendelstein 7‐AS stellarator.

Late Glacial summer paleohydrology across Central Europe

open access: yesScientific Reports
It is generally accepted that a weakening of the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation caused the Younger Dryas cooling. Although the role of seasonality was emphasized previously, this aspect is rarely considered yet, and it remains elusive how this ...

First SOLPS‐ITER Simulation Study of Japanese DEMO on Leakage of Seeded Ar Impurity

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT For JA DEMO, one of the grand challenges is efficiently handling the extreme power loads onto plasma‐facing components, particularly the divertor targets. Impurity seeding is an essential strategy for increasing the radiation losses and thereby reducing the heat load on the targets.

An Investigation Into the Yields of 3,4‐Methylenedioxyphenyl‐2‐propanone (MDP2P) From Glycidate Pre‐Precursors

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Hydrolysis of the glycidate pre‐precursors MMDMG and EMDMG was evaluated for MDP2P production. Acid hydrolysis of MMDMG (HCl, 100°C, 18 h) yielded the highest MDP2P recovery (79%), whereas base hydrolysis produced only slightly lower yields (73%), demonstrating both pathways are effective routes to this key MDMA precursor.
