Singularities for Timelike Developable Surfaces in Minkowski 3-Space

open access: yesSymmetry, 2023
In this paper, we consider the singularities and geometrical properties of timelike developable surfaces with Bishop frame in Minkowski 3-space. Taking advantage of the singularity theory, we give the classification of generic singularities of these ...

An Overview of Developable Surfaces in Geometric Modeling

open access: yesRecent Patents on Engineering, 2022
Background: A developable surface is a special ruled surface with vanishing Gaussian curvature. The study of developable surfaces is of interest in both academia and industry.

Singularities for One-Parameter Developable Surfaces of Curves

open access: yesSymmetry, 2019
Developable surfaces, which are important objects of study, have attracted a lot of attention from many mathematicians. In this paper, we study the geometric properties of one-parameter developable surfaces associated with regular curves.

B-spline control nets for developable surfaces

open access: yesComputer Aided Geometric Design, 2007
In this paper a linear algorithm is derived for constructing B-spline control nets for spline developable surfaces of arbitrary degree and number of pieces.

Industrial design using interpolatory discrete developable surfaces

open access: yesCAD Computer Aided Design, 2011
Design using free-form developable surfaces plays an important role in the manufacturing industry. Currently most commercial systems can only support converting free-form surfaces into approximate developable surfaces.

On Surface Approximation Using Developable Surfaces

Graphical Models and Image Processing, 1999
Summary: The author introduce a method for approximating a given surface by a developable surface. It will be either a \(G^1\) surface consisting of pieces of cones or cylinders of revolution or a \(G^r\) NURBS developable surface. This algorithm also deals properly with the problems of reverse engineering and produce robust approximation of given ...

Matching of developable surfaces

Proceedings. 1988 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003
A matching algorithm is presented for the recognition of an important class of surfaces called the developable surface. Such a surface is represented by a line-of-curvature description (LCD). The algorithm matches the LCD of an unknown surface and those of model surfaces on the Gaussian sphere to determine the corresponding model surface of the unknown.

Development of surface display

Proceedings of IEEE Virtual Reality Annual International Symposium, 2002
As a methodology to develop a force feedback system, the concept of "surface displaying" is introduced. A prototype mechanism and its control system is then designed and developed. Methodology for model calculation and simulation is discussed. The idea of texture mapping in a tactile sense is suggested, and is proven to be effective. >

Developable Conditions for Ruled Surfaces and Design of Developable Surfaces

2009 IEEE 10th International Conference on Computer-Aided Industrial Design & Conceptual Design, 2009
With the operator representation of Bezier curves, we first derive the sufficient and necessary conditions of a ruled surface being a developable surface, where the ruled surface is generated from two Bezier curves of degree m and n respectively as its boundary curves.
