The role of FDI along transitional dynamics of the host country in an endogenous growth model [PDF]
We investigate the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the transitional dynamics of host countries by using an optimal growth model. FDI may be beneficial for the host country because local people can work for multinational firms to get a favorable salary. However, if the host country only focuses on FDI, it may face a middle-income trap.

Bayesian local clustering of age-period mortality surfaces across multiple countries [PDF]
Although traditional literature on mortality modeling has focused on single countries in isolation, recent contributions have progressively moved toward joint models for multiple countries. Besides favoring borrowing of information to improve age-period forecasts, this perspective has also potentials to infer local similarities among countries ...

Mitochondrial DNA disorders in neuromuscular diseases in diverse populations
Abstract Neuromuscular features are common in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) disorders. The genetic architecture of mtDNA disorders in diverse populations is poorly understood. We analysed mtDNA variants from whole‐exome sequencing data in neuromuscular patients from South Africa, Brazil, India, Turkey and Zambia. In 998 individuals, there were two definite

Dynamics and Spatial Distribution of Global Nighttime Lights [PDF]
Using open source data, we observe the fascinating dynamics of nighttime light. Following a global economic regime shift, the planetary center of light can be seen moving eastwards at a pace of about 60 km per year. Introducing spatial light Gini coefficients, we find a universal pattern of human settlements across different countries and see a global ...

Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsy: Distinctive MRI Changes in Cerebellar and Motor Networks
ABSTRACT Objective Progressive myoclonus epilepsy (PME) is a rare generalized epilepsy syndrome with a well‐characterized genetic basis. The brain networks that are affected to give rise to the distinctive symptoms of PME are less well understood. Methods Eleven individuals with PME with a confirmed genetic diagnosis and 22 controls were studied.

ABSTRACT Dietary manipulations like ketogenic diets are established interventions for recalcitrant epilepsy. However, it remains unknown whether specific macronutrient exposure through dietary environments could possibly extend to primary preventive qualities, associated with changes in epilepsy disease burden (prevalence and incidence).

Developing Country Business Cycles: Characterising the Cycle [PDF]
