A QUANTITATIVE GENETIC METHOD FOR ESTIMATING DEVELOPMENTAL INSTABILITY

Evolution, 2004
The concept of developmental instability (DI) is frequently used in evolutionary biology, and a range of definitions has been proposed. Moreover, numerous different statistical methods have been used for estimation of DI. The common basis for all methods is that measures need to be obtained from repeated structures within organisms.

Developmental Instability in Species and Hybrids of Liatris

Evolution, 1970
The genome may be viewed as a harmoniously coadapted and integrated gene ensemble which mediates a broad and complex array of developmental processes whose successful completion is essential for viability, vigor, and fertility. The genomes of related species, while possessing these attributes, differ in their genetic constitution and in the type of ...

Dynamic behavior and modulation instability for a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation with nonlocal nonlinearity

Physica Scripta
This paper focus on the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation with triple refractive index and nonlocal nonlinearity, which is used to describe the evolution state of optical solitons in fiber optic propagation.

Genomic Coadaptation, Outbreeding Depression, and Developmental Instability

2003
Abstract Since the publication of Dobzhansky’s Genetics and the Origin of Species, the notion of genomic coadaptation has played a prominent role in the study of the genetics of evolution. The genome is thought of as a collection of harmoniously collaborating genes, which are pooled and maintained by selective processes over the ...

A Developmental Perspective on Developmental Instability: Theory, Models, and Mechanisms

2003
Abstract The study of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) has become a burgeoning field in evolutionary biology (reviewed, for example, by Palmer and Strobeck 1986; Palmer 19966; Moller and Swaddle 1997). Most of these studies use FA as a measure of “developmental instability,” “developmental stability,” or “developmental noise,” but usually are ...

Developmental instability and fluctuating asymmetry in man

1994
How good is fluctuating asymmetry (FA) as an indicator of developmental instability? Human studies have centered mainly on dental dimensions and dermatoglyphics. Dental studies have provided no convincing evidence that FA shows significant heritability, or is increased by inbreeding or by a stressful environment.
