An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Perverzní sex a normální gender. Normalizační sexuologie promlouvá o sexu a genderu [PDF]

open access: yesGender a Výzkum, 2012
The period of Normalization in Czechoslovakia is often perceived as a grey “Eastern iceberg” where life stood still and uniformity governed. My analysis of sexological discourse, particularly of texts focused on perversity, juxtaposes the normalized ...

Emotional Reactions to Deviance in Groups: The Relation between Number of Angry Reactions, Felt Rejection, and Conformity

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2015
How many members of a group need to express their anger in order to influence a deviant group member's behavior? In two studies, we examine whether an increase in number of angry group members affects the extent to which a deviant individual feels ...

llc: a collection of R functions for fitting a class of Lee-Carter mortality models using iterative fitting algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We implement a specialised iterative regression methodology in R for the analysis of age-period mortality data based on a class of generalised Lee-Carter (LC) type modelling structures.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Cum să abordăm diferenţele de vârstă şi gen în practica probaţiunii?

open access: yesSociologie Românească, 2010
This paper aims to explore the manner in which age and gender influence criminal behavior, criminal career and rehabilitation. We chose these two variables because in the literature they are often considered.

Corps déviants dans le roman policier français : transgressions et/ou réitérations de normes genrées

open access: yesItinéraires, 2015
This article studies the deviant bodies of detectives in crime novels written by Brigitte Aubert, Virginie Brac, Pierre Lemaitre and Fred Vargas. The deviant body is either too big or too small according to gender expectations in Lemaitre’s and Vargas’s ...
