The design and operation of flocculation processes are discussed in the context of the specific requirements of dewatering systems such as sedimentation and filtration. Chemical conditions, reagent selection and process operating conditions are evaluated based on the fundamental mechanisms involved in particle destabilization and floc development ...

A DECISION on the mechanical dewatering of raw and digested sludges calls for an initial appraisal of the outline economics related to the budgetary costs of capital construction and estimate of operating costs. The latter at times can be the subject of material revision when the plant is installed and operated, and demands a firm performance ...

DEWATERING OF HAMBURG'S DREDGED MATERIAL BY ELECTROACOUSTIC DEWATERING
Drying Technology, 1988ABSTRACT Separation of liquids from a fine particle suspension plays an important role in many industrial processes. In the last few years, a number of technologies have been developed for the separation of slurries with coarse particle suspensions and intermediate particle sizes.

ABSTRACT Food drying and dewatering raises a growing interest because of increasing requirements in quality, specially in the production of ingredients and additives for food formulation. Heat and mass transfers, as well as mechanical phenomena and reactions kinetics induced by these transfers must be more and more carefully controlled during drying ...

Sludge dewatering with cyclodextrins
Water Research, 2007Cyclodextrins (CDs) increase the cake solids and drainage rate of belt-pressed biological or primary sludge when added to the sludge slurry along with conventional conditioning chemicals. These benefits are obtained at very low CD dosage. A 2.8 percentage point increase in cake solids was obtained in a full-scale trial with mixed primary and biological

Dewatering of Filter Cakes: Vacuum and Pressure Dewatering
1985The primary aim of a dewatering filter is to reduce the liquid content of a slurry and to discharge solids which are as near to being dry as is practicably possible; so, in the sense of optimisation, the design of a dewatering filter should seek to minimize the moisture content of the discharged cake or to maximise the filtrate recovery rate.
