Abstract Purpose Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is associated with acute postoperative effects that increase the risk of falls. These effects differ between the medial parapatellar (PP) and mid‐vastus (MV) surgical techniques but have not been evaluated in terms of postural sway complexity.

Minimizing finite automata is computationally hard [PDF]
It is known that deterministic finite automata (DFAs) can be algorithmically minimized, i.e., a DFA M can be converted to an equivalent DFA M' which has a minimal number of states. The minimization can be done efficiently [6].

State Complexity of Reversals of Deterministic Finite Automata with Output
We investigate the worst-case state complexity of reversals of deterministic finite automata with output (DFAOs). In these automata, each state is assigned some output value, rather than simply being labelled final or non-final. This directly generalizes

The assembly is often a weak link in the production process. It is an enterprise activity which is responsible for a substantial part of the production costs and the throughput time. Robot assembly systems in addition offer legitimate possibilities to rationalize the assembly activities, because of the increasing product diversity, and the more severe ...

Abstract Purpose A single hip–knee–ankle angle (HKA) angle does not reflect the biomechanics of native, arthritic or prosthetic knees. Since HKA varies throughout flexion, dynamic coronal alignment is best represented by a kinematic curve plotting HKA against the range of motion.

Fast Boolean Queries With Minimized Leakage for Encrypted Databases in Cloud Computing
This research revisits the fundamental problem of processing privacy-preserving Boolean queries over outsourced databases on untrusted public clouds. Much current searchable encryption (SE) schemes try to seek an appropriate trade-off between security ...

ABSTRACT Lions (Panthera leo) are apex predators with a well‐documented influence on ecological dynamics, yet their potential role as bone‐accumulating agents remains poorly understood and often debated. Previous taphonomic studies have largely attributed bone accumulations in African savannah ecosystems to other carnivores, such as spotted hyenas ...

Unrestricted State Complexity of Binary Operations on Regular and Ideal Languages [PDF]
We study the state complexity of binary operations on regular languages over different alphabets. It is known that if $L'_m$ and $L_n$ are languages of state complexities $m$ and $n$, respectively, and restricted to the same alphabet, the state ...

An overview and categorization of man‐made per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) including low‐molar‐mass and high‐molar‐mass fluorochemicals, and their international regulations is presented. Though certain PFASs are toxic, bioaccumulative and cross the human cellular membranes, others, such as fluoropolymers, are safe, reliable and involved in ...

Local-Hybrid Functional With a Composite Local Mixing Function Built From a Neural Network and a Strong-Correlation Model. [PDF]
A new local hybrid functional, LH25nP, is reported, that uses a neural‐network local mixing function for the position‐dependence of exact‐exchange admixture trained with a human‐designed strong‐correlation factor. It thereby escapes the usual zero‐sum game between delocalization and static‐correlation errors.
