How endorser attributes influence conservation communication

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Conservation communication often uses the celebrity endorsement strategy. However, robust evidence regarding its effectiveness is still limited. More importantly, practitioners do not have guidelines for selecting an ideal endorser because there is no clear consensus on what endorser attributes are most critical.

A First Indication That Rainforest Vine Proliferation Does Not Enhance Predator–Prey Interactions on the Forest Floor

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Vine proliferation is a widespread consequence of tropical forest disturbance, yet its effects on ground‐level predator–prey interactions remain poorly understood. Using plasticine caterpillars deployed on the rainforest floor in north Queensland, Australia, we show that overall predation rates were unaffected by vine‐to‐tree ratio. Instead, fine‐scale

Rearing Istocheta aldrichi (Diptera: Tachinidae) From Field‐Collected Japanese Beetles (Popillia japonica): 2. Methods to Improve Overwintering, Adult Emergence and Longevity

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Successful rearing of Istocheta aldrichi, a tachinid parasitoid of invasive Japanese beetle, depended on conditions before, during, and after overwintering. Longer cold exposure increased adult emergence and accelerated post‐diapause development. Early transfer of puparia to cool conditions improved survival, while spring temperature manipulation ...

Life‐History Traits and Overwintering of Actia interrupta (Diptera: Tachinidae), a Larval Parasitoid of Choristoneura fumiferana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Actia interrupta is a larval tachinid parasitoid that plays a key role in regulating low‐density populations of the eastern spruce budworm. We describe its immature stages, life‐history traits, host‐searching behavior, development, and confirm its larviparous reproductive strategy.
