Host plant richness and abundance drive populations of a super‐generalist xylem‐feeding insect
Philaenus spumarius abundance was assessed across 93 sites and four habitat types (olive groves, vineyards, meadows, and field margins) within eight heterogeneous agricultural landscapes over the year. In spring, nymph abundance was positively associated with herbaceous plant species richness and vegetation cover, highlighting that even super ...

Balancing risk and opportunity: Nasute termite responses to predator and competitor chemical cues
Nasutitermes corniger discriminates between heterospecific chemical cues during foraging, showing non‐random resource selection based on predator and competitor information. Predator chemical cues consistently reduce food resource selection, indicating avoidance driven by perceived predation risk rather than direct encounters.

Salty conditions in urban stormwater ponds can influence dispersal timing in species‐specific ways for actively dispersing aquatic heteropteran insects. Assaying multiple aspects of dispersal propensity, Hesperocorixa obliqua emigrated earlier in stormwater pond conditions while overall probabilities remained unchanged; Notonecta undulata emigration ...

Visual Cues Can Alter the Behavioural Responses of Dragonfly Larvae to Chemical Alarm Cues
Using a controlled experimental approach, we examined how chemical and visual cues influence antipredator behaviour in Aeshna cyanea larvae and tested whether risk‐related information can be socially transmitted among nearby conspecifics. Our results show that dragonfly larvae do not copy the antipredator responses of others, but visual cues alter how ...

ABSTRACT Using pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) as a model species, we investigated the factors influencing fluctuations in the abundance of piscivorous intra‐annual cohorts and assessed the role of three distinct cohorts: extremely small (ES), ordinary (or mid‐sized) fingerlings, and piscivorous in shaping year‐class strength.

ABSTRACT The global decline in salmonid stocks has increased the need for knowledge of local adaptations and life history strategies of salmonids. In this study, we used radio‐telemetry tracking data from sea trout populations in two large high‐latitude rivers to model upstream spawning migration speed of trout in response to prevailing environmental ...
