A Complex Case of Emphysematous Cystitis in a Peritoneal Dialysis Patient
Emphysematous cystitis (EC) is a relatively rare condition characterized by gas formation in the bladder wall and/or lumen. We report a case of emphysematous cystitis with a bladder perforation in an 84‐year‐old male on peritoneal dialysis who presented with fever, dysuria, hematuria, and hypotension.

Not only diabetic polyneuropathy but also interstitial cells of Cajal dysfunction is a potential mechanism for diabetic cystopathy. [PDF]
Canda et al. [1] focused on the changes of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) and neuronal tissue related to diabetes. The results of the current study showed that the number of ICCs in the lamina propria and detrusor muscle is decreased in diabetic patients.

Urothelial Senescence in the Pathophysiology of Diabetic Bladder Dysfunction—A Novel Hypothesis
Diabetic bladder dysfunction (DBD) is a well-recognized and common symptom affecting up to 50% of all diabetic patients. DBD has a broad range of clinical presentations ranging from overactive to underactive bladder symptoms that develops in middle-aged ...

Our studies are the first to provide evidence of “hyperglycemic memory” in the bladder detrusor at the molecular/biochemical level. Evidence is provided that suggests a molecular mechanism for hyperglycemic memory in the diabetic detrusor through epigenetic modification of genomic DNA resulting from an environment of hypomethylation, that persists even

Investigations into the role of endothelin, nitric oxide and prostaglandins in the pathogenesis of diabetic cystopathy [PDF]
Endothelin-1 (ET-1) and its receptors (ETA and ETB) have been identified on the urothelium and smooth muscle of the urinary bladder. ET-1 has potent smooth muscle contractile and mitogenic properties. In contrast, the nitric oxide (NO)-cyclic-guanine 3'5'

A combined urodynamic and electrophysiological study of diabetic cystopathy
AbstractAimsThe aim of this study is to compare urodynamics and electrophysiological studies in the diagnosis of diabetic cystopathy.Materials and MethodsIn this prospective study are included twenty six patients with diabetes mellitus diagnosed at least since 5 years; 17 patients with diabetes type II and 9 with type I. They were divided in two groups
