Validation of the fullPIERS model for predicting severe maternal outcomes in preeclampsia in five Brazilian centers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 175, Issue 1, Page 174-181, October 2026.
Abstract Objective The objective of this study is to validate the fullPIERS (Pre‐eclampsia Integrated Estimate of Risk) prognostic model in a large, multicenter cohort of Brazilian women with preeclampsia and to determine the optimal cutoff for clinical application in the Brazilian context.

The Clinical Characteristic and Prognostic Value of Frailty in Elderly COPD Patients

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Objective Frailty, as one of the extrapulmonary comorbidities of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is highly prevalent in COPD patients. The primary objective of this research was to assess how frailty influences subsequent exacerbation and augments the predictive capacity of dyspnoea or the exacerbation history ...

Prevalence and Overlap of Malnutrition, Sarcopenia and Related Nutritional Syndromes in a Large Haemodialysis Population

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic kidney disease is a major global health burden linked to malnutrition, sarcopenia and related nutritional syndromes including protein‐energy wasting (PEW)/cachexia and sarcopenic obesity (SO). Data from end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD) populations in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East are scarce.

Surface Electromyographic Characteristics of Lower Limb Muscles in Frail Older Adults With Cardiovascular Disease: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Frailty predicts poor outcomes in older adults with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and is closely related to neuromuscular dysfunction. Lower limb surface electromyography (sEMG) during walking may capture frailty‐related motor alterations, but its characteristics and discriminative value in older adults with CVD remain unclear.

Extracellular Vesicles: Classification, Biological Functions, Diseases, and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
• EV content maintains cellular homeostasis and is involved in several disease onset and progression. • miRNA export in EVs depends on: RNA‐binding proteins recognizing motif sequences and on epitranscriptomic modifications. • The disclosure of delivery mechanisms is crucial for developing personalized EV‐based therapeutic tools. ABSTRACT Extracellular

Dynamic Changes of Neutrophil Nuclear Membrane CD63 as a Potential Biomarker for Early Adjunctive Diagnosis and Prognostic Evaluation of Sepsis in Critically Ill Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Here, we report that nuclear membrane CD63 (nmCD63), a marker of targeted nuclear degranulation in neutrophils, represents a novel biomarker for sepsis. In a two‐center prospective cohort with independent external validation, nmCD63 outperforms CRP and PCT for early sepsis diagnosis, with the nmCD63+SOFA combined model reaching an AUC of 0.943.

Iron and Other Metal Ions in Human Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Iron, copper, zinc, and calcium orchestrate cellular function through distinct yet cooperative mechanisms: redox‐active iron and copper cycle between oxidation states to act as Fenton catalysts and electron carriers in oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS); redox‐inert zinc serves as a structural component of zinc‐finger proteins and a catalytic cofactor ...

Radiotherapy‐Induced Side Effects: Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Prevention and Treatments

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Radiotherapy for malignancies frequently injures the organs’ systems through oxidative stress, fibrosis, inflammation, and vascular damage. This review systematically maps the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and emerging therapies to propose a mechanism‑network‑targeted framework for integrated, personalized care in radiation oncology.

Impact of Dietetic Counseling Combined With Digital Tools on Obesity‐Related Indices in Greek Adults: The GATEKEEPER Study

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 10, Page 1849-1859, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dietetic counseling with digital tools on obesity‐related and metabolic outcomes in adults aged ≥ 55 years at high risk for metabolic syndrome (MetS). Methods In this 3‐month randomized controlled trial, 984 adults aged ≥ 55 years with ≥ 1 MetS risk factor were randomized (1:1:1) to ...
