Outcomes of Postpartum Preeclampsia: A Retrospective Cohort Study of 1.3 Million Pregnancies

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, Volume 132, Issue 6, Page 752-759, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective We assessed the association between postpartum preeclampsia and the risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Evidence suggests that postpartum preeclampsia is initiated antenatally, but the impact on birth outcomes is unclear. Design Retrospective cohort study. Setting All deliveries in hospitals of Quebec, Canada.

circSIRT2/miR‐542‐3p/VASH1 axis regulates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) in subretinal fibrosis in age‐related macular degeneration models

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
circSIRT2 inhibited SRF by binding miR‐542‐3p, which stimulated the VASH1 expression and subsequently suppressed EndMT. The circSIRT2/miR‐542‐3p/VASH1 axis may serve as a promising therapeutic target for SRF in nAMD. Abstract Neovascular age‐related macular degeneration (nAMD), characterized by choroidal neovascularization (CNV), is one of the leading ...

Activated mTOR Signaling in the RPE Drives EMT, Autophagy, and Metabolic Disruption, Resulting in AMD‐Like Pathology in Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Our study reveals that overactivation of both mTOR complexes through mLST8 in RPE cells triggers AMD‐like pathology and cellular dysfunction. This finding highlights the critical role of balanced mTOR signaling in retinal health and suggests that targeting both complexes could be therapeutic for AMD treatment.

Single‐Cell RNA‐Seq Reveals Aging‐Related Impairment of Microglial Efferocytosis Contributing to Apoptotic Cells Accumulation After Retinal Injury

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Microglia engage with apoptotic cells via cell‐surface receptors, such as proto‐oncogene tyrosine‐protein kinase MER (MerTK) and Axl; these receptors interact with the bridging molecule growth arrest‐specific 6 (Gas6) on apoptotic cells. Young microglia demonstrate efficient efferocytosis of apoptotic cells, but this process is impaired in aged ...

Evaluation of the treatment effectiveness of oral and intralesional steroids in idiopathic granulomatous mastitis using superb microvascular imaging

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of oral and intralesional steroid injection in the treatment of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) cases with clinical, ultrasonography (US) and Superb microvascular imaging (SMI) findings.

Vitrectomy in Small idiopathic MAcuLar hoLe (SMALL) study: Internal limiting membrane peeling versus no peeling

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 103, Issue 3, Page e156-e164, May 2025.
Abstract Purpose To compare vitrectomy with and without internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling in small idiopathic macular holes. Methods Retrospective multicentre study including consecutive eyes with ≤250 μm idiopathic macular hole treated with vitrectomy. The primary outcome was hole closure rate.

Influence of scleral thickness on photodynamic therapy outcomes in central serous chorioretinopathy

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 103, Issue 3, Page e165-e175, May 2025.
Abstract Purpose To test the prognostic role of anterior scleral substantia propria (ASSP) thickness in predicting the 3‐month response after half‐dose photodynamic therapy (PDT) in central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) and to assess its clinical relevance of ASSP in different CSCR phenotypes.
