Diagnostic accuracy of effusion cytology
Diagnostic Cytopathology, 1999The aim of this investigation was to report on the diagnostic accuracy of conventional effusion cytology. Cytological diagnoses of 300 pleural effusions and 300 ascites were compared with clinical and/or histological follow-ups of the respective patients.

Prevalence‐dependent diagnostic accuracy measures
Statistics in Medicine, 2007AbstractWe study prevalence‐dependent diagnostic accuracy measures, specifically, positive and negative predictive values. These measures permit an assessment of the clinical utility of diagnostic tests across populations with different disease prevalences.

Clinical decision making while making a diagnosis is based on pre-test probability evaluation, a decision whether further tests are needed, and post-test probability evaluation based on test results. The add value of the test is the increase in probability, which depends on its diagnostic accuracy.

Latent Variable Modeling of Diagnostic Accuracy
Biometrics, 1997Latent class analysis has been applied in medical research to assessing the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests/diagnosticians. In these applications, a dichotomous latent variable corresponding to the unobserved true disease status of the patients is assumed.

Diagnostic Accuracy Under Congestion
Management Science, 2013In diagnostic services, agents typically need to weigh the benefit of running an additional test and improving the accuracy of diagnosis against the cost of delaying the provision of services to others. Our paper analyzes how to dynamically manage this accuracy/congestion trade-off.

This chapter explores how critical thinking not only limits the cognitive biases evident in the process of psychological diagnosis, but it also enhances critical reasoning. It outlines key reasoning difficulties, emphasized barriers to critical thinking in clinical practice, including time constraints and lack of training, and entered additional ...

The accuracy precision of the stress electrocardiogram has been assessed using a meta-analysis of 147 studies that included a total of 24,074 patients [1, 2]. The mean values for the sensitivity and specificity in the 58 studies that included only patients without antecedents of myocardial infarction were 67% and 72%, respectively.

Doubt: Recognition or Diagnostic Accuracy?
We evaluate if it is correct to express the concept of diagnostic accuracy as it is almost always considered, i.e., as the sonographer's ability to recognize that specific malformation in a specific age of gestation (for example in mid-gestation). Since the malformation almost always manifests itself in a different manner as from anatomical point of ...Niola M., Di Lorenzo P., Casella C.
