A contribution to the establishment of diagnostic reference levels in CT
The British Journal of Radiology, 2003CT has become the major source of population exposure to diagnostic X-rays. CT dose index (CTDI) and dose-length product (DLP) have been proposed as the appropriate dose quantities for the establishment of diagnostic reference levels for optimizing patient exposure.

Mammography diagnostic reference levels in Western Australia
Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine, 2020Mammography dose data has been collected from Western Australian units to establish Diagnostic Reference Levels for the state. Reference levels have been determined for a variety of phantom thicknesses for both full field digital mammography units and digital breast tomosynthesis units.

Diagnostic reference levels for mammography in BreastScreen Queensland
Australasian Physical & Engineering Sciences in Medicine, 2011Diagnostic reference levels assist in the optimisation of radiation exposure parameters within a medical imaging facility. As no Australian DRLs currently exist, radiation doses from mammography in BreastScreen Queensland are analysed. Program-based DRLs of 1.1 and 1.4 mGy are proposed for digital radiography and computed radiography mammography ...

A local diagnostic reference level for velopharyngeal investigations
The British Journal of Radiology, 2005The purpose of this study was to derive an initial local diagnostic reference level for velopharyngeal investigations carried out as standard radiological practice in the Medical Imaging Department, Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. This is a specialist video-fluoroscopic radiological technique used to evaluate velopharyngeal dysfunction ...

Provision of Italian diagnostic reference levels for diagnostic and interventional radiology
La radiologia medica, 2020The diagnostic reference level (DRL) is a useful tool for the optimisation of medical exposures. Thus, a Working Party coordinated by the Italian National Institute of Health and the National Workers Compensation Authority has been formed to provide Italian DRLs, for both diagnostic and interventional procedures, to be used as appropriate for the ...

Unsolved or unsolvable problems with diagnostic reference levels
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2005Diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for X-ray examinations have been introduced in many countries, among others in most European countries, as a consequence of the Directive on Medical Exposures from 1997. The concept seems to be straight forward, but when implementing it into practice a number of problems arise.

Diagnostic reference levels in pediatric radiology in Austria
European Radiology, 2010Because of the higher sensitivity to radiation in children, optimization plays an essential role in pediatric radiology. Diagnostic reference levels are a helpful tool to optimize patient dose for standard radiographic procedures.A nationwide survey was conducted to determine doses and variation in average dose applied to children for standard X-ray ...

2018
Diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) are a tool for optimization of radiation dose in medical imaging. DRLs permit comparison of radiological practices among facilities. DRLs are a quality assurance and quality improvement tool, used as part of a systematic method to evaluate local practice and to help determine when investigation into facility practices

Diagnostic reference levels in digital mammography: a systematic review
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2014This study aims to review the literature on existing diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) in digital mammography and methodologies for establishing them. To this end, a systematic search through Medline, Cinahl, Web of Science, Scopus and Google scholar was conducted using search terms extracted from three terms: DRLs, digital mammography and breast ...

ESTIMATION OF DIAGNOSTIC REFERENCE LEVELS FOR CT CORONAROGRAPHY IN SLOVAKIA
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2018The coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is a frequent diagnostic method connected with large variability of effective dose. Therefore, it is the type of examination where optimization is very important and the use of a national diagnostic reference level (DRL) recommended. In Slovakia the DRL for interventional radiology examinations until now fails.
