A diagonal function for an equivalence relation \(\sim\) on \(\omega\) is a total function \(f\) such that for all \(x\) in \(\omega\), \(x\not\sim f(x)\). Archetypical example: when \(m\sim n \leftrightarrow W_m=W_n\), the diagonal functions for \(\sim\) are, by definition, the fixed point free functions.
