Risk of Head and Neck Cancer in Former Smokers by Subsite: A Multicenter Analysis From the INHANCE Consortium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 5, Page 1204-1217, 1 September 2026.
Tobacco use and alcohol consumption are primary risk factors for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, with combined use occurring in three‐quarters of cases. This large international study of former smokers shows that the risk reduction effect of smoking cessation occurs more slowly for laryngeal cancer than for other head and neck cancer subsites ...

Characterizing Metabolic and Compositional Heterogeneity of Calf Muscle Using CEST MRI at 3 T

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study used 3 T CEST MRI to characterize metabolic and compositional heterogeneity in eight healthy calf muscles, focusing on amide, PCr, rNOE, and MT contrasts. Distinct signatures emerged between deep stabilizer and superficial powerhouse muscles. Significant correlations with age, fat content, BMI, and strength (e.g., rNOE vs. strength) revealed

Deep Understanding of Vaginal Microbiota in HPV‐Related Diseases From a Multi‐Omics Perspective

open access: yesVIEW Medicine, Volume 1, Issue 1, August 2026.
Current understanding of the vaginal microbiota and roles of critical vaginal bacteria, including Lactobacillus and anaerobic pathogens, in human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV‐related diseases from a multi‐omics perspective. ABSTRACT There is a large number of microorganisms in the human body, which are inseparable from human health.

Targeting the noncatalytic activity of GSK3β modulates neuronal excitability in medium spiny neurons via Nav1.6 interactions

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 15, Page 4344-4363, August 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Kinases phosphorylate ion channels, but their noncatalytic roles via protein–protein interactions (PPI) are less understood. Here, we identified the peptidomimetic ZL141 to characterize the PPI between GSK3β and Nav1.6, revealing a noncatalytic role for GSK3β in regulating Nav1.6 currents and neuronal excitability ...

Spiders in the mosaic: How habitat heterogeneity and structure drive local spider diversity in a Mediterranean forest

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 4, Page 810-826, August 2026.
We assessed alpha‐ and beta‐diversity patterns of spiders across different forests and across vegetation layers (ground, shrub, low canopy) at local spatial scales across various Mediterranean forest types. Across forests, alpha‐diversity increased with habitat heterogeneity, which also drove beta‐diversity patterns across plots .
