Standard telephone keypads are labeled with letters of the alphabet, enabling users to enter textual data for a variety of possible applications. However, the overloading of three letters on a single key creates a potential ambiguity as to which character was intended, which must be resolved for unambiguous text entry. Existing systems all use pairs of

I first came across these dials at the Old Ashmolean Museum when looking at astrolabes. Miss Kathleen Higgins, then writing a thesis on dials, asked if I could explain the operation of a dial described by Regiomontanus (1436-1476) of which several examples are shown in British and European museums.

This paper discusses the impact of growth in the UK dial-up Internet market on BT's underlying platform. Specifically it looks at the role of the telephony network provider in the delivery of IP-based transport services. As demand for more dial ports and attendant bandwidth increases, many customers are looking to outsource the basic infrastructure to ...

SUMMARY A three-dial Biometer permits rapid and easy calculation of all intraocular lens power parameters. The results are less accurate for extreme values of axial length or K, but are clinically quite useful. While lacking the glamour of a calculator, the three-dial Biometer is very practical.
