The Performance of Dialysis Care: Routinization and Adaptation on the Floor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Previous studies of communication in dialysis centers primarily focused on communication between nurses and patients. In this study, ethnographic methods were used to explore the dominant communication performances enacted by dialysis staff members ...

Characterization of WAC interactions with R2TP and TTT chaperone complexes linking glucose and glutamine availability to mTORC1 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TTT and R2TP chaperone complexes are required for the assembly and activation of mTORC1. WAC directly interacts with components of TTT, R2TP, and mTORC1, and these interactions are affected by the availability of glucose and glutamine, correlating with changes in mTORC1 activity.

An immunocompromised dialysis patient with skin and bone lesions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Patients with chronic kidney failure have disturbances of immune function involving both innate and adaptive systems. These result in both immunodepression which increases susceptibility to infection and immunoactivation leading to a chronic inflammatory

Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

A Clinical Prediction Score to Guide Referral of Elderly Dialysis Patients for Kidney Transplant Evaluation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
IntroductionDialysis patients aged ≥70 years derive improved life expectancy through kidney transplantation compared to their waitlisted counterparts, but guidelines are not clear about how to identify appropriate transplantation candidates. We developed

Maillard Type Reaction for Electroless Copper Plating onto Ceramic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the manufacturing of copper‐plated ceramic nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly way. Supported by organic functionalizations with pectin an electroless plating step can be performed. Sustainable reagents like xylose, and several amino acids are used for the reduction process.

Increased telomere attrition following renal transplantation: impact of anti-metabolite therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: The uremic milieu exposes chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients to premature ageing processes. The impact of renal replacement therapy (dialysis and renal transplantation [RTx]) or immunosuppressive treatment regimens on ageing biomarkers has

Development of a Novel Processing Route for Dispersoid/Precipitation‐Strengthened High Conductive Copper Alloys by Using Metalized Nanoceramics in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.
