Diameter and diametrical pairs of points in ultrametric spaces [PDF]
Let F(X) be the set of finite nonempty subsets of a set X. We have found the necessary and sufficient conditions under which for a given function f:F(X)-->R there is an ultrametric on X such that f(A)=diam A for every A\in F(X). For finite nondegenerate ultrametric spaces (X,d) it is shown that X together with the subset of diametrical pairs of ...

Diametral contractive mappings in reflexive banach spaces [PDF]
In this paper it is proved that if K is a nonempty-bounded closed convex subset of a reflexive Banach space X and if K has normal structure, then any diametral contractive mapping T on K into itself has a fixed point.

Diametrically Maximal and Constant Width Sets in Banach Spaces
AbstractWe characterize diametrically maximal and constant width sets inC(K), whereKis any compact Hausdorff space. These results are applied to prove that the sum of two diametrically maximal sets needs not be diametrically maximal, thus solving a question raised in a paper by Groemer.

Symmetry Breaking and Bifurcations in the Periodic Orbit Theory: II -- Spheroidal Cavity -- [PDF]
We derive a semiclassical trace formula for the level density of the three-dimensional spheroidal cavity. To overcome the divergences and discontinuities occurring at bifurcation points and in the spherical limit, the trace integrals over the action ...

Use of GIS for planning visual surveillance installations [PDF]
11-14 September, 2005, Denver, CO, USA. Visual Surveillance is now commonplace in modern societies. Generally, the layout of observers in artificial visual surveillance (e.g., CCTV camera) involves an iterative, manual and gut-feel process of trying ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative
