Distinguishing characteristics of Diamictons at the Margin of the Matanuska Glacier, Alaska [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 1981
The origins of diamictons deposited at the Matanuska Glacier are identified in stratigraphic sequences mainly by the presence or absence of a pebble fabric, internal structure, and variation in gravel-size clast distribution. These properties correlate with major differences in depositional mechanisms and source material.

Automated X‐ray computed tomography‐based analysis of clast fabric in drill‐cores of glacial diamicts using deep learning models

open access: yesBoreas, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 57-72, January 2026.
Clast‐fabric analysis is a widely used method for investigating depositional and deformation processes in glacial sediments. However, traditional field‐based approaches lack standardization, are time consuming and introduce sampling bias. This study aimed to develop a novel approach to automate clast‐fabric analysis using machine learning‐based image ...

Koroška Bela alluvial fan – The result of the catastrophic slope events; (Karavanke Mountains, NW Slovenia)

open access: yesGeologija, 2008
The Koroška Bela alluvial fan deposits were investigated to determine the genesis of the fan and the source area of sediments. The alluvial fan is composed of a sequence of diamicton layers, and related subaeric sediments that were deposited by multiple ...

Sedimentology and geomorphology of tufa barrages on rock coast shore platforms

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 72, Issue 7, Page 2173-2200, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Despite tufa deposits being widely distributed and increasingly recognised globally on rock coasts, their distribution in the tidal frame and geomorphology is poorly understood. The distribution, sedimentology and geomorphology of tufa barrages on supratidal rock coasts are assessed and their controls established.

The Late Glacial-Early Glaciomarine Transition in the Ottawa Valley: Evidence for a Glacial Lake? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Rhythmites overlying either cross-bedded sand or diamicton are found throughout the Ottawa Valley. Previously thought to be restricted glacial lake sediments, they are now known to be widespread, and represent a large proglacial lake which preceded the ...

Inner Asian Agropastoralism Within the Mongol Empire: Multi‐Proxy Investigations at Sel'Ungur Cave, Kyrgyzstan

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 40, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT Agropastoralism has been a widespread subsistence strategy in Central Asia from prehistory to the present. While significant research has aimed at understanding past agropastoral communities in the region, reconstructing a generalized economic model remains challenging due to the complex topographic and ecological conditions, as well as its ...

Influence of catchment lithology on debris‐flow fan morphology, sedimentology and evolution—Field evidence from the White Mountains, southern California, USA

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 50, Issue 13, October 2025.
Morphology of the (a) Sacramento Canyon fan (with a catchment dominated by batholitic bedrock) and (b) Gunter Creek fan (with a catchment dominated by sedimentary bedrock) at the foot of the White Mountains, California, highlighting the differences between fans fed by contrasting lithologies.
