Factors influencing the intensity of larval diapause in Ostrinia nubilalis

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1989
Abstract A study was made of the factors determining the intensity of larval diapause in Ostrinia nubilalis . Intensity was measured in terms of the number of days of long-day exposure (8 h dark–16 h light) at 30°C required to evoke a 50% incidence of pupation ( Days to P 50 ) in the experimental cultures.

Summer diapause intensity influenced by parental and offspring environmental conditions in the pest mite, Halotydeus destructor

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2019
The regulation of active and dormant stages of arthropods is critical for surviving unfavourable seasonal conditions, and for many species depends on the diapause intensity (DI). There is substantial information on diapause strategies of arthropods under winter conditions; however, most cases of summer diapause are poorly understood despite its ...

Photoperiodic and temperature effects on the intensity of larval diapause in Sesamia nonagrioides

Physiological Entomology, 2003
Abstract. The intensity of larval diapause in Sesamia nonagrioides Lef (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) was investigated under laboratory conditions. Newly hatched larvae were exposed to different stationary photoperiods (from LD 7 : 17 h to LD 14 : 10 h), at a constant ...

DIAPAUSE INTENSITY IN A FRENCH UNIVOLTINE AND A SASKATCHEWAN COMMERCIAL STRAIN OF MEGACHILE ROTUNDATA (FAB.)

The Canadian Entomologist, 1989
AbstractThe relative diapause intensity of a French univoltine and Saskatchewan commercial strain of the alfalfa leafcutting bee, Megachile rotundata (Fab.), was evaluated over a 3-year period. Prepupae from both strains underwent diapause development at 10 °C for different time periods.

Reversible change in embryonic diapause intensity by mild temperature in the Chinese rice grasshopper, Oxya chinensis

Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 2009
AbstractThe effects of temperature on maintenance and termination of embryonic diapause were investigated in Jining (35.4°N, 116.6°E) and Sihong (33.5°N, 118.2°E) strains of the Chinese rice grasshopper, Oxya chinensis Thunberg (Orthoptera: Catantopidae). Eggs of both strains entered diapause when incubated at 30, 25, or 20 °C.

Correlations of Diapause Intensities of Euphilotes spp. and Philotiella speciosa (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) to Host Bloom Period and Elevation

Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1993
Euphilotes Mattoni spp. and Philotiella speciosa (Hy Edwards) are small, blue butterflies of western North America whose larvae feed on flowers and seeds of various Eriogonum Michaux spp. (wild buckwheats). The many species and varieties of Eriogonum hosts variously bloom from March to October, although most bloom only for a month or so.

Effects of Photoperiod and Light Intensity on the Genetics of Diapause in the Apple Maggot (Diptera: Tephritidae)

Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 2001
Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh) is an important pest of apples and has been at the center of a long-standing debate concerning modes of speciation. The fly has been proposed to speciate without geographic isolation (i.e., in sympatry) in the process of shifting and adapting to new host plants.

Effect of photoperiod and temperature on the intensity of pupal diapause in the cotton bollworm,Helicoverpa armigera(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Bulletin of Entomological Research, 2013
AbstractThe intensity of pupal diapause in the cotton bollworm,Helicoverpa armigera(Hübner) was investigated under both laboratory and natural conditions. By transferring diapausing pupae induced under LD 11:13, LD 12:12 and LD 13:11 at 20, 22 and 25 °C to 25 °C combined with LD 15:9 to terminate diapause the rearing day length of 11 h evoked greater ...

Geographical Variation in Diapause Intensity and Threshold Temperature in the Eggs of a Cricket,Teleogryllus emma(Orthoptera: Gryllidae)

Entomological News, 2010
ABSTRACT: Diapause intensity, threshold temperature and effective temperature of three populations of Teleogryllus emma (Orthoptera: Gryllidae) collected from Jining (35°10′), Sihong (33°46′) and Changsha (27°02′), China, were investigated. The results showed that the diapause intensity for eggs of T.
