Modeling and Compensation of Nonlinear Distortion in Horn Loudspeakers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Horn loaded compression drivers are widely used in the area where high sound pressure levels together with good directivity characteristics are needed. Major disadvantage of this kind of drivers is the considerable amount of nonlinear distortion.

Miniature photonic-crystal hydrophone optimized for ocean acoustics

open access: yes, 2010
This work reports on an optical hydrophone that is insensitive to hydrostatic pressure, yet capable of measuring acoustic pressures as low as the background noise in the ocean in a frequency range of 1 Hz to 100 kHz.

A Grating Interferometric Acoustic Sensor Based on a Flexible Polymer Diaphragm

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This study presents a grating interferometric acoustic sensor based on a flexible polymer diaphragm. A flexible-diaphragm acoustic sensor based on grating interferometry (GI) is proposed through design, fabrication and experimental demonstration. A gold-coated polyethylene terephthalate diaphragm was used for the sensor prototype.

Constant-pressure sound waves in non-Hermitian disordered media

open access: yes, 2018
When waves impinge on a disordered material they are back-scattered and form a highly complex interference pattern. Suppressing any such distortions in the free propagation of a wave is a challenging task with many applications in a number of different ...

Multiphysics Modeling of a Synthetic Jet Actuator in Operation

open access: yesActuators
Active flow control is a promising technology for reducing noise, emissions, and power consumption in various applications. To better understand the performance of synthetic jet actuators, a computational model that couples structural mechanics with ...

Integrated 3D Sound Intensity Sensor with Four-Wire Particle Velocity Sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A new symmetrical four-wire sensor configuration has resulted in a fully integrated sound intensity sensor with significant lower noise floor and smaller size than its predecessors.

Fully integrated three dimensional sound intensity sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
For the first time, a complete 3-dimensional sound intensity sensor – consisting of 4 particle velocity sensors and a pressure microphone – has been integrated on a single chip, providing the possibility to do nearly point measurements of acoustic ...

Low frequency acoustics in solid $^4$He at low temperature

open access: yes, 2009
The elastic properties of hcp $^4$He samples have been investigated using low frequency (20 Hz to 20 kHz) high sensitivity sound transducers. In agreement with the findings of other workers, most samples studied grew very significantly stiffer at low ...
