T‐Joint Micromixer Coupled with Deforming Diaphragm
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2022AbstractA novel active micromixer design involving an oscillating diaphragm is proposed. A simulation study is performed to determine the effect of diaphragm length, amplitude, and frequency of the oscillating diaphragm on the mixing index. The geometry is a simple T‐joint with an elongated channel for the outlet with a diaphragm on the outlet channel ...

Coupled vibrations of a magneto-electro-elastic micro-diaphragm in micro-pumps
Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, 2016Reciprocating diaphragm micro-pumps are the most common type among indirectly driven micro-pumps. The elastic diaphragm is deflected using different excitation mechanisms to produce a flow rate. This paper addresses the possible use of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials as micro-pump diaphragm with a central discharge opening.

Coupled magneto-mechanical modeling of non-linear ferromagnetic diaphragm systems
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2019Abstract Magnetic polymer composites (MPC) are shape-changing materials capable of wireless actuation. There is growing interest in MPC for biomedical and robotic applications because it removes the need for on-board power systems and electronics.

Coupled Electrostatic-Structures-Fluidic Analysis of a Nozzle/Diffuser Diaphragm Micropump
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Micropump is the key component in the micro total analytical system. The major technical impediment in improving the performance of this micro-device lies in the lack of understanding the physical phenomena and their interactions of electric, mechanical, and fluidic fields for performing their intended functions.

Study on Dynamics of the Bionic Mechanical Coupled Diaphragms for Sound Source Localization
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Sound source localization is always of great value in many engineering applications. In recent years, studies on orientation mechanisms of the auditory systems and research of bionic structures of subminiature creatures, especially of the parasitoid fly Ormia Ochracea which has a remarkable ability to detect the direction of the incident sound stimulus

A New Treatment of the Horn-Diaphragm Coupling Chamber for Receiver Measurements
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1936A loudspeaker may be tested by removing its horn and loading it acoustically with an air column of variable length in a closed tube. In this way one can measure the acoustic impedance of the horn and the sound power output of the speaker, under the assumption that the air chamber in front of the diaphragm can be regarded as an addition to the tube of ...

Dynamic analysis of a pressure sensor diaphragm coupled with an air-backed cavity
SPIE Proceedings, 2006In this paper, recent efforts conducted to investigate the dynamic behavior of a pressure sensor diaphragm coupled with a cylindrical air-backed cavity are presented. Our study shows that a careful consideration of the coupling effect between the plate and the air-backed cavity is necessary to determine the design parameters of a pressure sensor, such ...

The SILCS diaphragm is a new, single-size contraceptive diaphragm. The objective of this crossover pilot study was to assess the fit and acceptability of the SILCS diaphragm compared to the Ortho ALL-FLEX diaphragm to validate the product design among parous women in a low-resource setting.Sexually active couples not at risk of pregnancy and at low ...

A coupled connector element for nonlinear static pushover analysis of precast concrete diaphragms
Engineering Structures, 2015Abstract This paper describes the formulation of a diaphragm connector element developed for use in two-dimensional finite element (2D-FE) modeling of precast concrete diaphragms. The connector elements, composed of assemblages of standard element types readily available in most FE software package libraries, are nonlinear, coupled for shear–tension ...
