Analytical and experimental study on the axial stiffness of multiple corrugated diaphragm coupling based on the corrugated circular plate theory

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2021
Compared to traditional couplings, the multiple corrugated diaphragm (MCD) coupling has the advantages of high torque diameter and weight ratios, and high compensation capability.

Couples' acceptability of the SILCS diaphragm for microbicide delivery

Contraception, 2012
Disposable plastic applicators used in microbicide gel studies are expensive and have a negative environmental impact. The SILCS diaphragm is a barrier contraceptive that could offer a reusable delivery system.Thirty-six couples in this randomized, cross-over study evaluated single- and double-sided gel delivery from a SILCS diaphragm compared with gel

Diaphragm Couplings Versus Gear Couplings for Marine Applications

Marine Technology and SNAME News, 1988
The gear coupling has been in existence for over 50 years. As advances in marine propulsion have occurred, so have advances in gear couplings. There are many variables in gear couplings that can affect their characteristics, including tooth design, materials, and lubrication methods. All couplings react on connected equipment.

Nitric Oxide Modulates Excitation-Contraction Coupling in the Diaphragm

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 1998
We investigated the enzymatic source, cellular production, and functional importance of nitric oxide (NO) in rat diaphragm. Neuronal and endothelial isoforms of constituitive nitric oxide synthase (nc-NOS, ec-NOS) were identified by immunostaining. NOS activity measured in diaphragm homogenates averaged 5.1 pmol/min/mg.

Biomimetic optical directional microphone with structurally coupled diaphragms

Applied Physics Letters, 2008
A biomimetic directional microphone based on structurally coupled diaphragms and a fiber-optic detection system is presented. The microphone design aims to mimic the fly Ormia Ochracea’s ear structure and capture its performance. Experiments show that the designed microphone amplifies the interaural time difference (ITD) by 4.4 times and has a ...

Acetylcholine contracture and excitation-contraction coupling in denervated rat diaphragm muscle

Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1973
Acetylcholine (ACh) contracture of chronically denervated rat diaphragms were studied under different conditions which affect electromechanical coupling. 1. Acetylcholine induced a transient contracture while the membrane potential and the twitch amplitude remained depressed as long as the drug was present. 2.

Coupled magneto-mechanical modeling of non-linear ferromagnetic diaphragm systems

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2019
Abstract Magnetic polymer composites (MPC) are shape-changing materials capable of wireless actuation. There is growing interest in MPC for biomedical and robotic applications because it removes the need for on-board power systems and electronics.
