Effect of Lung Volume Reduction Surgery on Neuromechanical Coupling of the Diaphragm
American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 1998The mechanisms for symptomatic improvement following lung volume reduction surgery for emphysema are poorly understood. We hypothesized that enhanced neuromechanical coupling of the diaphragm is an important factor in this improvement. We studied seven patients with diffuse emphysema before and 3 mo after surgery.

Coupled Electrostatic-Structures-Fluidic Analysis of a Nozzle/Diffuser Diaphragm Micropump
Advanced Materials Research, 2011Micropump is the key component in the micro total analytical system. The major technical impediment in improving the performance of this micro-device lies in the lack of understanding the physical phenomena and their interactions of electric, mechanical, and fluidic fields for performing their intended functions.

Free vibrations of sensor diaphragm with residual stress coupled with liquids
Journal of Applied Physics, 2014The free vibrations of a micro-biochemical sensor diaphragm with residual stress in contact with a liquid are analyzed using the Rayleigh-Ritz method in the paper. A mechanics model based on a plate with residual stress is presented and analyzed when the plate vibrates in contact on one side with a liquid. The liquid is assumed to be incompressible and

Coupled vibrations of a magneto-electro-elastic micro-diaphragm in micro-pumps
Microfluidics and Nanofluidics, 2016Reciprocating diaphragm micro-pumps are the most common type among indirectly driven micro-pumps. The elastic diaphragm is deflected using different excitation mechanisms to produce a flow rate. This paper addresses the possible use of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials as micro-pump diaphragm with a central discharge opening.

Design Improvement of the Mechanical Coupling Diaphragms for Aerospace Applications#
Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, 2007Abstract This paper entails an in-depth study of commercial mechanical coupling diaphragms, such as Goodrich (Bendix) or Koppers commonly used in aerospace industry. In order to improve the geometric design of these flexible diaphragms, while maintaining structural integrity, finite element analysis is used to parameterize the stress characteristics ...
