Heterogenized Copper(II) Phenanthroline Catalysts for Electroreduction of CO2 to C2 Compounds: Substitution on the Ligand Causes Structural Changes to the Molecular Framework and Stability Enhancement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Based on a previously reported binuclear Cu(II) phenanthroline catalyst, a structurally modified version with enhanced stability for electrochemical reduction of CO2 is developed. The second‐generation system allows for stable operation in an MEA electrolyzer with a Faradaic efficiency of >70% for C2 products at elevated current densities.

Silicon strain sensors enable pressure measurement at cryogenic temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Miniature pressure transducers with diffused, heavily doped silicon strain-gage sensor elements, operates over a wide temperature range. Small thermal mass combined with close coupling between a metallic diaphragm and sensor elements minimizes ...

Investigation of Exothermic Behaviors of Energetic Particles in Microfluidics Channels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Scheme and representative frames of delivery, ignition, and combustion process of core@shell Al@CuO energetic material in a microchannel. The electrical discharge occurred at the throat of microchannel leads to the combustion of the energetic reaction, causing the formation of high‐momentum butterfly‐shaped jet at the throat.

Study on the Static Stiffness of Large Diaphragm- rubber Coupling

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2016
By using the finite element software ABAQUS,the finite element model of large diaphragm-rubber coupling is established, and the simulation and analysis of its static stiffness is carried out,the static torsional stiffness, radial and axial stiffness of the

Short-term acceptability of a single-size diaphragm among couples in South Africa and Thailand [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care, 2008
The SILCS diaphragm is a new, reusable, single-size cervical barrier device that is designed to offer the same barrier protection as a standard diaphragm with improved user acceptability. This non-randomised, non-blinded, non-significant risk, multi-site pilot study assessed the short-term acceptability of the SILCS diaphragm among women with no ...

Inflatable Kirigami Crawlers

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Inflatable kirigami crawlers are fabricated from heat‐sealable textiles and achieve motion through cyclic pneumatic actuation. Strategically placed kirigami cuts guide asymmetric deformation, doubling contraction compared to traditional pouches and forming scale‐like surfaces.

Skeletal muscle dysfunction is associated with derangements in mitochondrial bioenergetics (but not UCP3) in a rodent model of sepsis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Muscle dysfunction is a common feature of severe sepsis and multi-organ failure. Recent evidence implicates bioenergetic dysfunction and oxidative damage as important underlying pathophysiological mechanisms.
