Robot‐assisted resection of diaphragmatic and hepatorenal recess peritoneal endometriosis: Two cases and a narrative review

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract In this report, we describe two cases of diaphragmatic endometriosis with concurrent hepatorenal recess peritoneal involvement managed using robotic‐assisted laparoscopic surgery with the da Vinci Xi platform. In both patients, diaphragmatic implants and hepatorenal recess peritoneal lesions were excised en bloc, followed by resection of ...

Aspiration pneumonia induces muscle atrophy in the respiratory, skeletal, and swallowing systems

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, 2018
Background Repetition of the onset of aspiration pneumonia in aged patients is common and causes chronic inflammation. The inflammation induces proinflammatory cytokine production and atrophy in the muscles.

Visual Patterns of Diaphragmatic Motion in Acute Respiratory Failure: A Prospective Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, Volume 53, Issue 3, Page 421-428, March/April 2025.
In this prospective bicentric study, we studied the relationship between the appearance of diaphragmatic motion and the etiological diagnosis of patients admitted to the emergency department with ARF. We observed a different visual pattern in patients with pneumonia. This is an interesting result as it allows the diagnosis of pneumonia without the need

The role of extradiaphragmatic muscles’ ultrasound on the diagnosis and follow-up of diaphragmatic dysfunction associated with cervical septic arthritis: A case report and literature review

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia
Cervical septic arthritis can lead to complications such as epidural abscess, which may result in respiratory failure. We present a case of a 78-year-old male with cervical septic arthritis complicated by epidural abscess, leading to severe diaphragm ...

Patient Dose Optimisation of Abdominopelvic Protocols During X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
This study evaluates organ doses in abdominopelvic radiography for both erect and supine positions, addressing dose optimisation concerns in Ghana. Using CalDose X and thermoluminescence dosimeters, organ doses and image quality were analysed, revealing significant dose reductions with optimised exposure parameters (70 kVp, 10 mAs, 110 cm FDD).

Protective effects of exercise against sepsis-induced energy metabolism dysfunction in skeletal muscle of rats

open access: yesFisioterapia e Pesquisa, 2015
We evaluated effects of aerobic physical preconditioning on general performance and energy metabolism in skeletal muscle of septic rats. Forty-eight 10-wk-old male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to either Untrained or Trained groups. Aerobic exercise

Neurovascular alignment in mouse diaphragm muscle

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2007
Blood flow to the diaphragm muscle is integral to oxygen uptake. With multiple vascular inputs and extensive branching of the phrenic nerve, we tested whether nerve branches align with microvascular branches. Following vascular casting (Microfil), intact diaphragms of male C57Bl/6 and CD‐1 mice (4 ea; 3 mo) were excised, pinned at in situ dimensions ...

Sonographic localisation of lymph nodes suspicious of metastatic breast cancer to surgical axillary levels

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 72, Issue 1, Page 119-138, March 2025.
Sonographic imaging is used to identify the presence, number and location of malignant lymph nodes. Axillary lymph nodes suspicious of harbouring breast cancer metastasis can be localised to three surgical axillary levels. This paper will unpack the axillary anatomy, muscular sonographic landmarks, surgical axillary lymph node levels and the ...

A case of autoimmune hepatitis in a patient with inflammatory bowel disease and significant lymphadenopathy in the porta hepatis

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract The diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is supported by the presence of elevated transaminases, hypergammaglobulinemia, liver biopsy consistent with AIH, and the presence of AIH autoantibodies. In this case presentation, we highlight the challenges associated with diagnosing AIH in a patient with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who ...
