Defining minimum image quality criteria for common diagnostic point‐of‐care ultrasound images: A position statement of the Society of Hospital Medicine

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, Volume 21, Issue 2, Page 183-196, February 2026.
Abstract Background Point‐of‐care ultrasound (POCUS) use continues to expand across multiple clinical subspecialties, and the need for standardization of training and quality assurance has become increasingly important. Despite the need for training, there are currently no widely accepted multispecialty criteria to define an acceptable quality POCUS ...

Machine learning model for fast prediction and uncertainty quantification of needle deflection during prostate biopsy

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 53, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Background Accurate needle placement is essential for prostate biopsy. Recently, transperineal prostate biopsies are receiving renewed interest due to concern over infection from conventional transrectal biopsies. However, accurate needle placement is more challenging in the transperineal approach than in the transrectal approach due to the ...

Ultrasound Guidance to Augment Needle Electromyography Precision in the Complex Nerve Injury Setting

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 73, Issue 2, Page 133-148, February 2026.
ABSTRACT The rise in popularity of nerve transfer surgery in individuals with peripheral nerve and spinal cord injuries has elevated the importance of the preoperative electrodiagnostic examination. Needle electromyography (EMG) provides peripheral nerve surgeons with precise information about donor and recipient muscle health, aiding in decisions ...

Is Ferroptosis the Mechanistic Bridge Connecting Iron Dysregulation to Muscle Wasting and Functional Decline in Aging?

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
This work proposes ferroptosis as a mechanistic driver of age‐related muscle dysfunction, whereby iron dyshomeostasis and impaired antioxidant capacity promote lipid peroxidation, and eventually trigger ferroptosis, leading to muscle wasting, and ultimately contributing to weakness and functional decline with aging.
