Abstract Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a life‐saving intervention applied to critically ill patients. A common consequence of MV is ventilator‐induced diaphragm dysfunction (VIDD), which is characterized by significant diaphragm atrophy and reduced contractile function. Older patients who receive MV are more likely to develop VIDD, have worse recovery,

Abstract The combined use of subcostal ultrasonography and respiratory manometry represents a novel, integrative method for quantifying diaphragm contractile function (force, velocity and power). We evaluated the technical feasibility, construct validity and within‐day test–retest reliability of this method during non‐volitional, volitional and ...

Rapid Free‐Breathing and Automated 2D Shimming of the Lung at 3T
ABSTRACT Purpose To develop and validate a rapid, fully automated method for shimming of the lung. Methods For field mapping of the lung, a custom 2D RF spoiled gradient echo sequence was used offering sub‐millisecond echo times. At 3T, four echo‐shifted coronal images were acquired with a minimum TE of 0.57 ms and an inter‐echo spacing of 0.1 ms ...

Abstract A 10‐month‐old, neutered, male domestic shorthair cat with outdoor access was presented with a thoracic wound, severe respiratory distress, cachexia, dehydration and pleural effusion. Imaging confirmed bilateral pyothorax. Haematology showed marked neutrophilia with left shift, mild anaemia, thrombocytopenia and lymphocytosis.
