The M31 microlensing event WeCAPP-GL1/Point-AGAPE-S3: evidence for a MACHO component in the dark halo of M31? [PDF]
We re-analyze the M31 microlensing event WeCAPP-GL1/Point-AGAPE-S3 taking into account that stars are not point-like but extended. We show that the finite size of stars can dramatically change the self-lensing eventrate and (less dramatically) also the halo lensing eventrate, if events are as bright as WeCAPP-GL1. The brightness of the brightest events

Diaphragmatic eventration presenting with sudden dyspnoea [PDF]
Eventration of the diaphragm is an abnormal elevation of an intact diaphragm. There are two distinct aetiological types of eventration: congenital and acquired. The acquired diaphragmatic eventration is rarely seen in adults and the most common aetiological type for acquired disease is cardiac surgery.1 It may be asymptomatic or cause recurrent ...

Clinical and molecular features and therapeutic perspectives of spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 [PDF]
Spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress (SMARD1) is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease caused by mutations in the IGHMBP2 gene, encoding the immunoglobulin μ-binding protein 2, leading to motor neuron degeneration.

Thoracic surgery in solving enormous elevation of the left hemidiaphragm [PDF]
Background. Acquired elevation of the diaphragm is mostly the result of phrenic nerve paralysis, some of thoracic and abdominal patological states, and also some of neuromuscular diseases. Surgical treatment is rarely performed and is indicated when lung

Early‐onset Marfan syndrome (eoMFS) is a rare disorder with atrioventricular valve insufficiency being the most severe symptom. We propose to regard eoMFS as a spectrum, ranging from a severe disorder life‐threatening already before or immediately after birth, to a disorder with a better survival rate, creating a window for atrioventricular valve ...

Tensioning diaphragmoplasty for treating bilateral phrenic nerve paralysis in a dog
A spayed female Miniature dachshund presented with a large mediastinal mass. During thymectomy, the left phrenic nerve, which was encircled by the neoplastic tissue, was resected en bloc with the tumour and the right phrenic nerve was damaged by thermal coagulation from electrosurgery. Postoperatively, the dog exhibited significant respiratory distress
