High-Frequency Generation of High-Pressure Pulses Using a Diaphragmless Shock Tube
We have developed a high-pressure pulse generator at a high repetitive rate by combining a diaphragmless shock tube with shock strengthening by area convergence. The diaphragmless shock tube generates shock waves with Mach numbers of up to 2 traveling in the tube at atmospheric pressure.

Characteristics of an annular vertical diaphragmless shock tube
Shock Waves, 2000Abstract. This paper reports on the characteristics of a compact vertical diaphragmless shock tube, which was constructed and tested in the Shock Wave Research Center to study experimentally the behavior of toroidal shock waves. It is 1.15 m in height and has a self-sustained co-axial vertical structure consisting of a 100 mm i.d.

Design of a fast diaphragmless shock tube driver
Shock Waves, 2015In this paper, we developed a one-dimensional compressible flow model to study the behavior of various diaphragmless drivers numerically. We determined that the diameter ratio, $$\beta _{d}$$ , for the ...

The use of high-velocity sheet-forming techniques where the strain rates are in excess of 10 2 /s can help us solve many problems that are difficult to overcome with traditional metal-forming techniques. In this investigation, thin metallic plates/foils were subjected to shock wave loading in

Motion analysis of a diaphragmless driver section for a narrow channel shock tube
Shock Waves, 2008We set up a diaphragmless driver section as the first step towards developing a shock tube at microscale which has high experimental efficiency, independent of tube dimensions or the ratio of driver and driven pressure. The experiment described in this paper is performed by using our diaphragmless driver section.

Shock Waves, 2009
The paper reports results of experiments regarding toroidal shock wave focusing in a vertical shock tube as a part of a series of converging shock wave studies. This compact vertical shock tube was designed to achieve a high degree of reproducibility with minimum shock formation distance by adopting a diaphragmless operating system.

Preliminary Study on Diaphragmless Shock Tube for Transonic Airfoil Testing with PDI
In the present study, the diaphragmless shock tube is developed for the transonic and the high-subsonic airfoil testing. The flow visualizations of the shock tube as the wind tunnel is performed by the PDI (point diffraction interferometry) technique.
