Bilateral Supracondylar Process in a Subadult in the Late Antique Age: A Case Report

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT During the excavation procedures for the railway trait Napoli‐Cancello, in the city of Afragola (Naples), several burials dating back to the Late Antique Age were found. One of them was an amphora burial (enchytrismòs) and contained the skeletal remains of a subadult individual affected by bilateral supracondylar process. Supracondylar process

Relationship between the heterogeneity in mechanical properties, bone density and composition parameters of cortical bone to design and develop bone scaffolds and implants: Analysis of bone microstructure

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Bone is heterogeneous and anisotropic because its mechanical characteristics vary by anatomic location and loading direction. Previous research established a correlation between bone density, mineral, organic content, and porosity and mechanical ...

Computed tomographic assessment of plate offset in modified tibial plateau levelling osteotomy with a precontoured plate with an anatomical design for treatment of cranial cruciate ligament rupture and medial patellar luxation in small‐breed dogs: An in vitro study

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Aim To evaluate the effect of plate offset using a PCM‐TPLO plate with an anatomical design for medial translation of the proximal tibial segment and frontal‐plane alignment during modified TPLO in small‐breed canine tibial models using CT. Methods Five distinct small‐breed tibial morphologies were reproduced as three‐dimensional‐printed bone models ...

Flexible intramedullary nailing in the treatment of diaphyseal fractures of the femur in preschool children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Femur fractures in preschool children are mostly treated in a conservative way, by means of spica cast immobilisation or skin traction. In school age children the use of flexible intramedullary nails (FIN) is widely used and promoted.

Growth and Variation in Fallow Deer (Dama dama L.) From Two Contrasting Habitats in Southern Britain

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We have compiled a unique data set on the age, sex, body weight and dimensions of over 500 European fallow deer from two contrasting areas of habitat in southern England: a high‐density managed parkland population and a lower‐density feral woodland one.

Morphometric and Paleobiological Insights Into Pleistocene Sicilian Wolf Populations

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Pleistocene wolves (Canis lupus) from Sicily represent one of the few known insular populations of this species from that time period. Despite their potential relevance for understanding carnivore adaptations in insular contexts, no dedicated study has previously investigated their morphology and evolutionary significance.

The Diagnostic Odyssey of a Biochemically Confirmed Case of ML II: The First Western Patient With LYSET Deficiency

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
We identify a female patient with a homozygous nonsense variant (p.Gln38Ter) in the LYSET gene. This is the first western report of a challenging case of an extensive diagnostic odyssey and demonstrates that the LYSET gene must be considered in the differential diagnosis when M6P‐labeled lysosomal enzymes are altered.
